Since my second semester at UT, I have devoted 15 hours a week to volunteering as a Young Life leader. Every week I help run a club meeting for dozens of high school kids, manage a planning meeting with my teammates, and lead a small group for sophomore girls. I spend hours at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School watching games and performances, and simply getting to know these young adults. Through investing this time to build relationships as a mentor and role model, I strove to show these girls that they are significant, noticed and valued. Volunteering as a Young Life leader has taught me invaluable lessons in building relationships, caring for others, and working with a team that will help me to be a more supportive and productive physician…
The site that I visited was Mercy Hill Church in Greensboro, NC. I went to a sermon, with some friends, that took place on a Sunday night. When we arrived at the church, we stayed together and observed the site. The members of this church all seemed to be within their twenties and thirties; there were a few younger children and a few older women and men, but not many. Most of these people seemed to be from Christian ethnic backgrounds or just unaffiliated with any ethnicity.…
I want to be a Link Crew Leader because I would love to be able to mentor freshman as my previous Link Crew Leaders did to me. I also feel that becoming a Link Crew Leader would not only allow me to help shape freshman to become better people but to help me become a better person myself. I have been both a volunteer at a summer program for first and second graders and an assistant coach for the special needs program at Alta Loma Little League. At the summer program I was tasked with teaching 3 classes of first graders to type and code. This leadership position not only taught me how to actively communicate with people who learn in different ways, but also taught me to become a stronger leader.…
During the my high school years I have participated in the State College Area High School Renaissance Faire. At this time I have 2 different leadership positions one involves teaching a group of students to sword fight and the other leadership position involves advertising the club to the school. As a part of this club I have learned to speak in front of other people. Since my Sophomore year of high school I have participated in the chamber orchestra group at my high school. This group is for the advanced orchestra students.…
On August 2nd, 1941 First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt wrote this quote in her daily newspaper column, “My Day.” In the thick of World War II Roosevelt’s quote inspired many as they fought through their hardships. People learn from doing. We maintain the values that our role models instill in us, but as we gain experience, we fashion our own beliefs. A mirror of this in my life is my work with the organization Soles for Jesus.…

In addition to this, at my church, I help in doing as much as I can. Some Sundays, I usher along with some other people my age, and on other Sundays, I assist the group leaders in…
I continued to look for a place to serve more in and help more people but I could not find anything that really interested me. When he asked me to help him along with a few others to grow the student ministry I was ecstatic. He had told us that we were the seven like there were the twelve. I think this is my greatest accomplishment as a leader because even though I was a young student he saw a leader unlike many adults that normally think kids should be put to smaller tasks.…
“You have been sent here for others. The world is waiting for you.” Those are just some wise words of wisdom by the co-founder of The Salvation Army, Catherine Booth. This quote has a heavy impact on myself, and it should for others once they hear it. It makes you step back and think not about yourself and how fortunate you are for the life you live.…
True and significant life is found in Jesus Christ and because of my firm conviction of this it has been my primary objective to point people to Jesus. Being persuaded that Christ wants Christians and especially those who take leadership roles to minister to the needs of others, I have ordered my life to conform to that conviction. Ultimately, Jesus desires that each Christian serves him by serving others; this is accomplished in a variety of ways – feeding those who are hungry, teaching everyone the life saving Gospel, and by leading in a way that reflects the glory of Christ. It has been my immense pleasure to have had the opportunity to preach God’s Word to thousands of people over the past fifteen years. It is my sincere passion to see people embrace Christ Jesus as their Lord and savior and to be transformed by the renewing of their minds through the Word of God.…
Growing up in a Mexican American household, most likely one is to be raised Catholic. Therefore, as a young boy it became ordinary to follow and believe in what my parents instilled in me. Furthermore, I never had the courage to explore any other religion and get a sense of what other religions are about. However, now that I am taking Social Work 461 with Dr. Tillman, one of my assignments is to attend a religious service that is held by a group that is different from mine. As a result, I decided to attend a Buddhist temple to get an insight of what the Buddhist religion is about.…
As I member of my youth choir, I worked to organize charity outings such as singing and praying for the homeless at Pacific Garden Mission. As we performed, I loved seeing the smiles that light upon the faces of individuals living in the…
My involvement in the community is through two distinct opportunities: my church and the numerous projects our school Rice Elementary participates in each year. Through my church I have taught Sunday school, served as a camp counselor, taught in Vacation Bible School, chaired countless outreach committees and volunteered numerous hours in the children’s ministry. I love serving the community through my…
Recruiting a person as a volunteer for a secular event or a church activity or church service depends not only on the person skills but if the individual desire to partake in the event or activity. Sometimes certain people volunteer to serve in the church to help them feel useful and a part of the church family, so they sign up. However, the first element to volunteering is love. This essay will look at the context of the scriptures explaining why some of the volunteers work for the ministry is profitable inside and outside of the church. This paper will also describe the outcome and benefits of having the Body of Christ minister to the people than the pastors.…
During my childhood and lower teens, I was very involved in church. I would go to every event or meeting put on by our church. Watching certain senior youth members, I didn’t understand why they would just come to the fun events. I would only see them during our mission trips or camps, but never at business or regular meetings. Then I promised myself that I would always stay as active as I could.…
