Personal Narrative: The Robinson Theater

Improved Essays
Piles of homework, memorized scripts, complicated blocking, sweaty costumes, quick meals, and exhaustion beyond comprehension are all part of my life. A typical day is 7 hours of school, 4 hours of rehearsal, and 3 hours of homework which all equates to long and exhausting 14 hour days. Time management is skill that was forced upon me to keep me swimming through high school. I have spent more hours inside my school’s auditorium than I have in some of the classroom. Thankfully, my classes have all been equipped with the necessary materials for me to excel. Theatre on the other hand has not always had the materials needed to make the best show possible. The Robinson theatre department has always struggled to put on a good show.

In my opinion, my desire to be a state thespian officer could be summarized by my childhood girl scout troop’s mantra which was “Wherever you go make it a better place when you leave”. The arts programs over the course of my entire public education have served me well and continues to. This love for theatre has stemmed all the way from 1st grade Annie with my debut role of Kate the orphan to now an over 50 cast of Beauty and the Beast. I believe that the best way I can repay this debt back and make theatre a better place is through being a state thespian officer. Without theatre, I truly don’t know who I would be and I would like to do my best to not only improve arts programs across the state but, also bring the arts to those less fortunate improving theatre for all from when I first entered it all those years ago.…

This week was fun for me because I made the soccer team and we had a fun week of practices. We had much less homework this week than the previous week which was very fortunate because my brother and I had their grade’s curriculum nights so I was not getting home until eight thirty. There were three quizzes/tests this week which was a little rough but I think I got through them well. I thought that the Socratic seminar in LA was a little bit of a dud because…

The first Broadway musical I enjoyed was Disney's Beauty and the Beast. I was about thirteen years old. It was more elaborate than the small performances at Disney World. There was more music, elaborate set designs, and more seats in theater. I was very impressed by the singing and actors ability to flow through the material.…

Even though I do not remember many things from my childhood, I remember the moment when I met Melvin Miller very clearly. I was only five, and when I walked up to him for the first time I had no clue he would change my life forever. My first moment with Melvin was watching him lay tile. I watched as he very eloquently placed each piece of porcelain and grout on the floor in a way that I had never seen before. I was immediately captivated.…

I have never really considered myself a history buff, nor do I tend to indulge myself in any sort of history in my spare time. Like many others, I took this course, Role Playing American History, in order to fulfill a general education requirement, and my counselor said she has heard this course is pretty entertaining. However, I found myself truly enjoying this course for many reasons beyond being able to argue with my classmates. This course truly did help me to better learn about American history for several reasons, as well as alter the way I view history in general. First and foremost, the game itself taught me a variety of information about American history.…

Over the centuries, theatre conventions evolved from the highly presentational performances of the Greeks to the extravagance of Elizabethan productions and eventually conglomerated to produce contemporary theatre. The University Playhouse’s performance of Acting: The First Six Lessons expressed this conglomeration of Greek and Elizabethan conventions through elements of presentational theatre, a non-localized set, and a supporting cast that functioned similar to a chorus or ensemble. This performance also altered conventions through the addition of female actors, use of representational aspects, adaption of the functions of the chorus or ensemble, and lack of a raised stage. In the following sections, I will discuss the adoption and adaptation…

The play lasted about and hour and thirty minutes with 4 actors; Pia Desideria, Katie Judge, Jack Render, and Cassi Russell.
