Personal Narrative: The Operations Control Center

I pulled up to the entrance gate a little after 7 in the morning. I pushed the speaker button asking for security clearance to enter. The voice on the other end announced he was opening the gate and directed me to pull forward into the facility and turn left to report to the main office. I entered the office and introduced myself. The technician showed me where to sign in and handed me the necessary safety gear to tour the facility. I felt a little awkward since I am not used to not being able to just walk into a business nor having to put on special clothing. The technician pointed out where the restroom was located and the escape route in case of an emergency. He then directed me to my mom after teasing me about my mom and how I have grown over the years.

I walked back towards the gate and entered the management offices where I found my mom's office. I observed my mom

The Operations Control Center is a 24 hour/7 days a week operations that remotely monitors the pipelines, tanks and other valuable equipment throughout the US.

My mom looked at the clock and rushed to the next building to attend the daily area safety debriefing. After we grabbed what was left of the available chairs, we listened to safety topics, project and night shift updates and the work that was going on for the day. Everyone had a turn in sharing their work activities and safety concerns. The company is very concerned with safety and the employees are engaged with the discussions about it.

After the morning meeting, we returned to my mom's office. She called the control center along with other people from different regions and shared information in which the operation center needs to know, i.e. anything that would affect their operations, which systems will be shut down and resolutions from the shift report.
