On the plane, I return to my latest project: inexpensive desalinization of ocean water. My company has come so far; our team has already developed technology that evaporates and condenses ocean water into drinking water efficiently. While the process is environmentally sustainable, the startup is less economically achievable. Now, we are looking into a staggering 50% reduction in costs in order to provide access to this technology for developing nations and underserved populations. As the leader on this project, I must find a way for my team to reach a solution that provides both economic and environmental success.

I am excited; out of everything that I have accomplished, my projects at Pitzer have always been my favorite. Not only did my classmates and I change Pitzer’s LEED certification status, we elevated Pitzer’s standing in comparison to other collegiate campuses’ sustainability efforts. By my senior year, Pitzer had jumped to number one in the nation for environmentally sustainable college campuses, a legacy held even today, fifty years later.
