Personal Narrative: The American Civil War

It is currently 4:54 PM and I am in the kitchen cooking dinner for my family, but stopped to write this journal entry. The weather today is humid and overcast. It is 66 degrees outside. The Civil War is officially over. The Union (north) wins and the Confederacy (south) loses. I am relieved and very grateful that the north won the Civil War and my husband who was in the war is OK. It is exciting that the North won because I support the north and dislike slavery and I feel that it caused the war. Lately I have been mourning the death of president Abraham Lincoln, who was assassinated and I have been cooking meals for my family. I also have been spending time with my family that consists of my banker, William Stanton, my housewife Amelia

Reading this book, Bitterly Divided: The South’s Inner Civil War, has shed a new sort of light on the way that I view the Civil War. My whole life, all I’ve learned in history class after history class is that the Civil War was a war fought between the North and the South over ending slavery. However, this war was something that was so much more than that. Just from this book, I’ve learned that the Civil War wasn’t just a war that separated North and South, but also a war that caused a whole other war that we never hear about, the Civil War within the South.…

Jefferson Davis’s poor leadership or insubordination to work together with his generals, the South’s failure to gain, England and France’s support to their cause, morale of the South towards the war 's end and the Norths superior resources made the outcome inevitable. The Civil War was a trying time for both the South and the North, but the signs of the South’s outcome were obvious from its beginning. The North won decisive victories over the ill equipped south. Northerners experienced an enormous industrial boom rather than facing difficulties of war. To the South it was debilitating and draining like a leech sucking the land dry of economic hardships.…

In every war, there is a winner and there is a loser. The final result of the war is a mix of successes by one side and failures by the other side. The Civil War follows the same trend as the South failed to withstand the Northern attacks. The South never had to conquer Washington or win the war, in reality, they only had to not lose. If the South could last long enough for the North to get tired of fighting, they would win the war.…

She was one of the girliest girls I knew since grade school, with her stylish culottes and pink garments of all different shades for all different occasions. She was the epitome of a mixture between pure innocence and quirk that boldly took her rightful place in the middle of my heart. Mary Anne wasn’t just all of that; she was also my affectionate girlfriend, my warm-hearted best friend who I could talk about anything with, from the most trivial things to the very meaning of our whole existence. At the time, all I could feel was the absolute joy that I got from spending my time with her. We had our entire happiness in the future planned out, a dream wedding and all, but maybe that was the reason why I wouldn’t have ever imagined that I would be feeling so lost and empty just a few years later, alone and missing a part of myself.…

The Civil War (1861-1865),“was an unnecessary condition of affairs, and might have been avoided if forbearance and wisdom had been practiced on both sides,” (Robert E. Lee). 5 years of bloodshed resulted in the victory of the North, a part of the United States that support the abolition of slavery, low-wage workers, tariffs, and other ideas that the South did not. Although the North named the war victorious, many Southerners believe that it was more the loss of the Confederacy than the victory of the Union. The South had substantially less people compared to the North (9 million: 22 million), and 5.5 million of them were Negros. In addition to this factor, the Union won significant battles in the later years of the war, which eventually wore down the Confederacy.…

I do not have a particular stance for or against Calexit, but I am open to considering the movement. I both agree and disagree with Dave Marin’s opinion that California has a better opportunity to start towards the path of secession. Our Constitution, by his explanation, seems to dictate that we can secede, but I see a possibility for another civil war. If this situation comes to a civil war, I do not see California winning by a landslide, unless the state receives aid from Washington and Oregon, and they can create their own country of some Pacific States of America. Of course, it is not as if Calexit was not a movement before with social, economic, and geographic differences from the rest of the country.…
