The fire was growing and it covered most of the car. My mom was about to head to the flaming car, but when she saw the man was only getting out paperwork, she turned back. My dad, however, was screaming his head off at the man. “GET AWAY FROM THE CAR!” he shouted.
When the man finally realized that the flames were getting too high, he slowly shuffled away. He came away from the car miraculously unharmed, but the car itself was not so lucky. The car’s tires were popping like over-inflated balloons, and flames were exploding out of the gas tank like a roman candle. To top it off, someone had called 911, so the driver got a grand finale of his vehicle-turned-bonfire turning into a soggy soon-to-be pile of rust.
It made me grateful that my parents’ car does not have something dragging on the ground, ready to turn our car into an inferno. The biggest reason we don’t have that problem is that my parents maintain our car enough not to have the problem he did. As my mom said, the man looked like he was “an inch from a diabetic coma,” while my parents are healthy, mentally and physically. I realized how fortunate I am that I don’t have to deal with the problem of being stranded far from a town with no
