Personal Narrative: Reusing Backs In College Football

It was less then a second, maybe half a second, but it decided our championship hopes. We were down by 3, on our own 35 with 42.3 seconds left in the 2023 season. Let's take it back though back to the beggining of the season.

Our first game of the season was against Oklahoma, one of the best teams in the nation last year. Their running back S P. Ryan was one of the most brusing backs in college football. As soon as the game started we set the tone, on the kick off the returner attepmted to return the kick but was immidieatly stopped on the 21. As they started their drive they were gettinng about four yards a pop, so they were getting first down after first down. they made it to our 15 yard line. We held them four three downs and they kicked a field goal and were up by three. When we got on offense they could not stop them. We went on to win the game 35-20.

We had made it to the playoffs and beaten Stanford in a very close game 35-34, they had gone for the two point conversion to win the game but our defense blocked the pass and won the game. After that game we went into next weeks practice hungry, hungry for a national championship but to get to the national championship game we had to beat Ohio State our second loss of the season. Although they had beaten us we thought we had a shot at beating them so at practice we worked the hardest that we had ever worked that

In football the money quarter is the 4th it's when heroes are made or goats to blame. Sunday quarterback Cam Newton engineered two touchdowns in the final four minutes to seal this victory. Put it in perspective, Newton was 12 for 15 162 yards and the game-winning strike to tight end Greg Olsen with 32 seconds left. My favorite part about this whole thing is the fact that Newton is staying in the pocket looking downfield and trusting his wide receivers not just using his legs to burn defenses. It's so much fun to see his maturity and football IQ continuing to rise every game he threw some absolute frozen ropes where only our receivers could catch them.…

Kansas City had a pair of 7 play drives; totally just under 100 yards between the two of them – so good field position benefited the Chief’s cause. The Chiefs offense would take their third drive another 57 yards finishing with a field goal to take a 2-touchdown lead into the locker room. To start the second half it seemed Kansas City was going to take advantage of a weak Bears team after all, as they drove another 13 plays, controlling the 3rd quarter clock. But, that is when the tide of momentum would shift. A short 27-yard field goal try was blocked by the Bears defense and the mojo shifted almost as abruptly as it seemed the Chiefs had taken control of the game.…

There was two outs and runners on second and third. The ball was hit and went between our third baseman's legs, the runner from third scored with ease. Their coach sent the guy from second and our left fielder Jackson Mayday was our last hope. He threw past the cutoff man and it was a perfect throw to our catcher Isaac Turner and he tagged the runner ending the game. We all threw our gloves and hats in the air and celebrated like crazy kids.…

What I was looking forward to doing my senior year, was leading my team as a senior to the best we could be. I was working harder than I ever had all winter long leading up to this. I had one goal that I did not see happen any of my four years there, which was getting to the state championship. There were a lot of things that had to go right for this to happen. The team had to be good, they had to work hard every day, they had to win districts, they had to win regional’s, and the most importantly the team had to get along great they have to be a family.…

At the mid-way point in the fourth quarter the score was fifteen to twenty one in favor of Hoytville. Hillcrest had the ball though, and everyone was sure that they would score. Finally Hillcrest got down to the goal line with only a minute left and no time outs. On first down they passed and it was incomplete, on second down Joe Mitchell ran and was stopped just short of the goal line and the out of bounds line. Now Hillcrest really had to hurry, because there was only seconds left.…

It was only one year ago on this day that I had suffered my most recent and hopefully final concussion. Our football team was playing the number three-ranked team in state for our seventh and extremely important game of the season. As anyone who lives in Chicago knows, October can be a mild month for fall or an extremely cold month, which my princess girlfriend absolutely hates. Unfortunately last year was one of the coldest Octobers we have ever had, breaking the record, which was previously held in 1982. Kickoff was minutes away…
