I’m just a young sixth grade fragile petite girl. I never get into trouble and focus on my school work. As Mrs. Price placed the jacket on my desk my heart felt like it forgot to beat.
“ This isn’t -” I got interrupted.
“ I don’t want to hear about it” Replied Mrs. Price.
I froze, I didn’t know how to take in her actions. My brain mentally couldn’t respond or process anything at that exact moment. My face, red as if someone had pressed my entire head into a oven.
“ Why, w- why?” I muttered “ this isn’t mine.” My sorrowing emotions expanded, I felt invaded. I didn’t know what just happened. “ I remember Rachel wearing that jacket” Sylvia jabbered. “ Thank you for being conscientious Sylvia,” Replied Mrs. Price. “ now, put on the jacket, Rachel.”

Slowly but surely I slip one of my lanky arms into the rusty red christmas like sweater, I can feel the pride and confidence dissolving fast as I wipe the waterfall tears off my face.
“ Wait! I remember wearing that sweater” stated Phyllis. The bell rang at the exact moment he said something. “ Are you serious!” I yelled “ I went through all that and nobody said anything!” “ I know, i’m sorry it won’t ever happen again” Phyllis replied.

The next day everything changed, Mrs. Price had been the one defeated, I proved everyone wrong. I could finally be seen, and not as the same shy fragile

“The Jacket” Fictional Narrative Assessment Gary Soto’s “The Jacket” tells the story of a jacket that the author received when he was in 6th grade. The jacket his mother lovingly purchased for him was NOT the kind of jacket he had asked for, and in his eyes, brought him three years of bad luck. Rewrite Soto’s personal narrative as if his mother HAD bought him the neat jacket - “like bikers wear: black leather and silver studs with enougt belts to hold down a small town.” Tell your version from the day the author sees the jacket on his bedpost, to the end of day when he first wore the new jacket to school. Knowing that something special was going to happen that day, because she could feel it deep inside her soul, Charity sprung out of bed. Her grandpa had always said that she had the “gift of knowing,” the same as her grandmother, Mi 'thebe, had. Mi’ thebe was a Cherokee name that in English meant Shadowy Moon. As she stepped outside the old, log cabin she took a deep breath of the cool, fresh mountain air and then stretched her back, leaning from side to side to remove the stiffness she felt from sleeping in her not so comfortable bed, which consisted of a straw-ticked mattress atop a wooden bunk that seemed to became flatter each year as she grew older. Her grandfather had built the cabin some fifty-odd years earlier as a wedding gift for…

Bush embraces Olive entirely, giving a glimpse into her gloomy, and at times loving nature while coming to terms with growing old.…
