At approximately 7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 6th, 2016 I arrived at 7810 Shaver Rd for my internship with the Portage Department of Public Safety. I entered the station and put on my vest for my ride along. I then proceeded to the Sergeant 's office where I received the name of the officer I would be riding with for the night. The Sergeant told me I was scheduled to ride with Officer Patterson. I met with Patterson and we went to the briefing room and waited for the night shift briefing. I grabbed all my equipment and the muffins I bought the day prior from the car and walked over to the first firefighter I saw, who was a middle aged asian man who greeted me with a warm smile, not completely aware that there was to be a ride along this day. Which did not surprise me entirely, especially in hindsight, seeing how busy their lives are, and how many people frequent any fire department. My arrival time was 07.39, so I wasn’t expecting the 08.00 crew to be there, but to my surprise they all seemed to be present. I walked into the main living room, where they had probably the largest TV I have seen, with couches, a large dining/work table, and on the far…
