Improved Essays
Relationships are complicated, on one side they are the best thing to have while sometimes it may be the worst thing to have. When I view life, I see it as mix up of good things and bad things, much like everyone has. Most people like myself would rather have “good” relationships with the people they interact with for many reasons. I favor positive relationships over negative ones because they simply cause no problems in my view and it just seems like the better thing to yearn for. When I have bad relationships, I view them as a bad thing that I would not like to have and just quit them.

When thinking of a “good” relationship that I have with others, I have quite many. However when Thinking about the most positive relationship I have, it

I believe the reasons why the relationship with my mother was so strong was because of how she and I were always communicating with each other. Since I was little I used to tell her everything about my life. I told her my problems, my feelings and everything about my life. Because of that close bond I had with her, I felt secure and accepted. My actions closely relate to the concept of “Self Disclosure.” When I told my mother about my life, she cared and she knew me more than just her son. Because I disclosed everything that had occurred to me with my mother, our relationship became stronger which in turn made it a “good” relationship. If I didn't tell my mother about the occurrences of my life, I wouldn't think that our relationship would be as strong as it is currently. Another thing about the relationship between my mother and I was because of the things that my Mother did for me. Being the caring my Mother is, she obviously wanted the best for her child. She used to clothe me with the best clothing, feed me the best food available and most notable to me was buy me the toys and items …show more content…
My relationship with my Father could be described as negative as well as unproductive. While when I talk with my Mother, she is always focused on me and carefully listens to what I have to say. However, when I speak my Father he is usually not paying attention and is always using his smart phone or is on the computer. Looking at the communication with my father and the idea of “Cyber Addiction.” Since my Father is always using technology to an extent, not only do I not converse my ideas with him but I also do not know of his information aswell. Because of this issue it also leads to another larger problem of which is “Non-Verbal Communication.” Even when my father is not on his cellphone or computer, when I do want to talk to him our conversations are short. Usually when my Father talks to me, he does not seem very happy to talk to me. He is always either frowning and or looking annoyed and would rather communicate with hand gestures most of the time. However when I do try to communicate non-verbally, he usually does not respond and just ignores me. From these actions that my father implements in his character and actions, the result of that is a bad relationship with each other. Without these negative things, I am certain that our relationship would be more positive and stronger like that of the relationship with my

In the beginning of Roberta M. Gilberts textbook Extraordinary Relationships: A New Way of Thinking About Human Interactions (1992), she argues “In the realm of the purely personal - after food, water, and shelter - the quality of relationships most often determines the quality of life” (p. 3). I believe this statement perfectly sums up how vital and necessary human relationships are for human life, and the strong impact they play on having a positive and meaningful life. There were several concepts presented throughout chapters 1 - 12. They were each of equal importance and each greatly impacts the understanding of relationships. In order to have a purposeful life and a greater understanding of relationships, there are many crucial concepts that must be understood, three of them are differentiation of self, thinking systems, and the relationship pattern of cutoff.…

This allowed me to learn easier and be a happier child. Since my mom didn't work, I wasn't put in a daycare, so my bond with her was strong. The play helped me learn different skills and words, and the other stuff helped me to develop a sense of safety. I believe that the closeness that my mom and I have today is due to my attachment to my mother when I was a child.…

To build upon Adler’s statement, since self disclosure requires a person to reveal information that is typically not shown to the public, once the person discloses that information it is possible that the consequences may become negative. A reason why people keep certain information away from others is to maintain their presenting self, which is an image of how they want others to view them as. Rejection, negative impression, decrease in relational satisfaction, loss of influence, and hurting others are risks of self disclosure.
