Personal Narrative-Over-Aggressiveness In American Football

Attack When a mindset brings forth both failure and success, it is difficult to understand its effectiveness. In my athletic career, I experience both victory and defeat as a direct result of aggressiveness. I would rather reflect upon my athletic careers and think “I cannot believe I did that,” rather than think “I wish I did that”. Whether it be stealing home late in a baseball game with my team down by two or trying to granby-roll my opponent while I am up by ten, I refuse to be conservative in athletics. During my junior wrestling season nearly every one of my losses were a result of over-aggressiveness. My first loss was to my rival from Lone Jack whose name is Michael “Trey” Raysick. My victory was almost inevitable and all I had to do was retreat for ten seconds to avoid a five point throw. Instead, I wanted to show him up by taking him down before the end of the match and as a result, he threw me for five points and my first loss of the season. One week after that devastating loss I was wrestling Shawn Grew from Sherwood. In my previous three matches against Shawn I pinned him three times all with the same pinning combination known as ‘the guillotine’. With a twelve point lead in the second round, I rode him with my leg and as I tried to roll over him to put him in ‘the guillotine’ my leg slipped out and as a result I was pinned seconds later. My last match of my junior season was a third place match at Marshall High against Tony Gink from Lebanon. After a loss to a wrestler who would go on to win the class one
