We made a team and picked out the vehicle problem and after months of hard work, tears, and hot glue, we were ready for regionals. It was just as I remembered. If anything it was better. 100 times better. I was home again. With our amazing vehicle skit we took second place at the competition. The dream had been achieved and we had made it. State finals was one of the best times of my life. So many people that were weird and crazy just like me. Our team was ecstatic because it was the 2nd game in 3 games we had won after losing about 30, plus it was also the first time we ever placed in a tournament. We ended up getting some pretty daunting medals, which just added to the excitement we had from actually achieving something as a team for once. After finishing up the tournament the whole team went out to a Mexican restaurant to cap off the trip. The Mexican place was real authentic and in the top it contained a store with professional sports memorabilia. After we finished eating, we hopped back in the car and took off for a 3 hour trip back to…

I went about my business as usual until that fateful day. I was tending the fire, proving and prodding the flame, then I saw them. I had not been expecting visitors today, especially not thirteen humans. I felt the pang of hunger in my stomach and the thirst for blood in my throat.…

A fleck of dust dances in the silence of the room, broken only by soft, rhythmic breaths. The speck abandons itself in the apparently motionless air, enlightened for just a moment by a ray of sunlight which filters through the not perfectly closed curtain. It crosses the room, ending it’s long journey on a pillow of the bed leaning against the opposite wall. It takes only a few minutes for the rising sun to beam directly in Clarke’s eye.…

Walking through a desert can be a scary thought, that’s something many adults would not want to do for more than a few hours, and just unthinkable to a child; however as an undocumented student that’s something I had to do for eight hours when my mom decided to bring my five year old brother and my eleven year old younger self to the United States. A journey that would take maybe two days with the proper documentation took my family a little over a week to achieve. The journey was not a simple linear path, much like the journey that ultimately led me to the decision to attend medical school. Since I was a child I have been interested in the workings of the human body.…
