Personal Narrative: New Hunting Spots

Improved Essays
It was a cold bitter night on the 1st of December in 2012. I decided to try out a new hunting spot for the first time. I knew that it was going to be much colder because i did not have any walls around me to protect me from the brutally cold wind. The temperature gauge read a bone chilling 5 degrees, and i knew that it was only going to get worse as the day came to an end. I made sure to wear extra clothes and to dress in layers for the long five hours that I have ahead of me sitting up against a tree. I say goodbye to my mom, dad and sister and grab my furnace full of hot coffee and my muzzleloader. As I began to walk I can hear my parents saying good luck and be safe. Also once I got farther away I can hear them say, “Don’t come home unless you get us dinner” referring to the deer that I …show more content…
Once I reach where I was planning on spending my night until dark, I clear an area of snow, and then place my chair and lean my rifle up against the closest tree. As I am sitting there, all that I can hear hear is the sticks breaking behind me but I do not see anything coming out of the tree line and coming my way. It is always discouraging to a hunter, especially a newer one who has not developed as much patience yet and waiting for the one to come into your sight, and more importantly, come into your line of fire and take the shot. It is now going to get darker soon, it is starting to get closer to 6:30 and that is about as late as I can stay out and still be able to shoot still, but out of nowhere, 8 deer come sprinting right to my bait pile. By this time I have been sitting outside for three hours and it was barely above five degrees and I was more cold at that very point than I ever have been but I wouldn’t of changed all single about what has happened in the last three hours. The deer ran straight to my bait pile that was 30 yards away and started eating everything in

I got home tried out the new bullets and they shot perfect in my gun and I just knew today was going to be the day something hit the ground! It was around 3:30 or four when we headed over there. I did not even get a chance to get in my stand that evening because the deer were already on the move. Two does were coming across the field right behind my aunt and uncle's house.…

ALTHOUGH RESEARCH CONFIRMS that the whitetail rut takes place at almost the exact same time every year, most hunters know that the rut’s intensity varies from day to day. As much as your head spins with the mental images of scrapes, full moons, rubs, monster bucks, and rut-crazed chase scenes, the best times to be in the woods will rarely coincide with calendar anniversaries. Through years of personal experience and research gathered from other hunters, Cory Wiedel is one of the most accomplished whitetail hunters. He has taken 11 Boone and Crockett– class bucks in the past six years, and he places a priority on going after his scouted target bucks only when he recognizes that the conditions are favorable. “There are certain weather-related…

This season I was ready I had been constantly going out and putting out feed and checking trail cameras, I had put in the extra work that I hoped would let me be the first to change the history of our family property. My Dad and I woke up early on the early fall morning and set out to the woods before the sun started to rise. We arrived to the stand just when light was starting to filter into the field, I was alone he headed back out to the house and wished me luck. I sat for a few hours waiting for deer but none came so I packed up my gear and wandered aimlessly my way back to the house. I warmed up with some coco my grandma had made me and said I was going to head back out after a quick…

“Wake up Carson” my dad said as he shook me awake, “It is time to go Hunting.” “But it's five in the morning” I whined, but I knew if I wanted to get Mr. Crabs, the biggest deer on our property I would have to get out there. The Adrenaline that a hunter feels being in the top of a tree stand waiting for the perfect deer to hunt is absolutely incredible, however hunters are not always lucky enough to find their prey. My dad and I began going around the ranch a day before we went hunting, we looked around to see where the biggest deer’s were located. We tested and align the rifles, to leave everything prepared to go hunting the following day at dawn. We were very positive that we were going to be lucky enough to hunt a big trophy deer, tough the results we had were never crossed our minds.…

It was a brisk fall morning in November. I had woken up extra early just to make sure I could make it out to my stand before the sun would peek above the horizon. I’m not much of a morning person, so waking up can be a difficult challenge for me. Since it was just my first year of deer hunting, my dad had agreed to sit out in the stand with me just incase any trouble came about. I quickly brushed my teeth, got dressed in blaze orange from head to toe, grabbed some snacks, and began the journey out to the stand where I would be sitting for a while.…

I know this because this is what I would assume today. Again, my childish hope panned out because less than five minutes later the same three deer were back. My dad, who was extremely shocked, told me to calm down and take a long breath, shooting during the exhale when I took the shot. The deer got within twenty yards again. I, being a little more patient this time, slowly aimed at the doe.…
