Personal Narrative: My Trip To The Dartmouth Library

Last October I participated in the Dartmouth Native Fly-In Program and while I was visiting I made a trip to the third floor of the Dartmouth library. I remember this experience quite well because out of all the wonderful memories I made on that trip, this was the one experience that had the greatest impact on me. I remember walking into the library where old, frail books lined the walls with dark, mahogany bookcases stretching high. There were antique lamps on the desks that let off just enough light for one person to study under and floors that creaked loud enough to draw attention to my friends and I. As I stood, I reflected on the people who must have studied there, such as Dr. Seuss, Robert Frost, or Daniel Webster. However, the library gave me more than just a reflection on the people of Dartmouth’s past, it gave me a reflection on myself as I finally realized that I am capable of doing great things. My whole life I have aspired to become successful and standing there, where so many other great people had stood, made me feel as though that goal was and is obtainable. I understand that it is only a library, but that night it held special significance in my life as it helped me to discover my full potential.
