Personal Narrative: My Trip To The Catoctin Mountains

Improved Essays
For the seventh straight year, 80 of my Iranian family members and I made plans to stay at the Catoctin Mountains for a weekend camping trip. Every year, camp is filled with laughter, excitement, music, and dance. The setting is beautiful and stress free. A searing pain in my abdomen woke me up at five in the morning. I felt the pain in my lower-right quadrant. In anatomy class two days prior, I had learned that my appendix was located within that same area. I was frightened that I may have appendicitis. My uncle, a surgeon, reached the same conclusion. I dragged myself to my parents’ cabin, with each step increasing the pain. My dad carried and threw me into the car. I spent six of my summers growing up at an all girls camp called Wavus. Wavus is a wilderness tripping camp in Maine based out of my hometown, Jefferson. Living in Jefferson, I did not obtain a great deal of exposure to other people from the country, let alone other parts of the world. When I went to Wavus I was put in a cabin with girls from all over the United States and even one from Belgium. Having to live with these girls for a month each summer enabled me to become close friends with them and learn about their lives.…

Today I was looking at some old pictures from my 1993 trip to Death Valley National Park. When I was a kid I hated camping, but now I have fond memories of these trips, which just does to show how time can change our perception of things. We visited Echo Canyon, and camped there for the night. There is a ghost in Echo Canyon, which I photographed at the time. This canyon is true to its name-sake as you can shout and your voice will carry on the wind for miles and bounce back off the mountains in the distance.…

The crucible was about a lengthy trial which caused many people to open their eyes and see the bigger picture. In my opinion, most have gone through, or will go through, a severe trial during their life that will cause them to change their perspective. For me the trail I experienced which impacted me the most was seeing my little sister in critical condition at the age of two. I was nine and my world turned upside down for what seemed like forever. Although I was young at the time, the thought of not having my little sister in my life impacted me strongly, and led me to mature.…
