Personal Narrative: My Trip To Sierra Leone

Decent Essays
I'm $368 away from securing my spot on the trip to Sierra Leone. In the midst of disappointment, God continues to show Himself as faithful. My trip deposit was due two weeks ago.

It's only by God's grace that I still have a chance to be on this trip. I just received an email from my trip leader telling me to keep pushing. She feels that I'm meant to be on this trip.

The airline is holding my ticket; however, I will lose it tonight if I don't secure my spot. I'm holding on to every ounce of faith that I have.

I'm updating you because you matter to me. I really need you to stand with me in these last hours. I would really appreciate your prayers. I need $2,783 to pay my trip in full.

At my most vulnerable, I was having to fill the role of teacher and leader, teaching people how to walk with others through a difficult situation. I learned how important it is to be authentic. I had to let them be part of the grieving and healing process, showing weakness, strength, and reliance on God. My prayer is that God used this journey as an example for others, that they would see our source of strength and hope, that life could again be filled with joy, and most importantly that they would see Jesus through…

I was only 14 when I went on my mission trip, but experiencing that such a young age has shaped me for who I am. I was involved in three mission trips, which all occurred in the States, but in all three-mission trips I helped people who I believe needed it most. I was proud of what I did and I think it was something that not a lot of people did at my age. One of my biggest motivators were the people I was helping. After going on my first trip, I had bonded with others and had made me realize what the real world is like outside a small town in Iowa.…

I said to someone once, "if I could have a free pass I think I would go back and change a few things". They looked at me and said "Like what?" And ever since then it's been going through my mind all the things I "thought" I would do different. For starters, I would change all the immature/irresponsible things I may have done in my adolescence. I would take back all the things I should've not said, or say the things I needed to say.…

“I don’t want to go!”, cried my five-year-old self as my mom dragged me to the plane that would change my life forever. It was the first time, of many more to come, that I was stepping on a plane. This plane, in less than eight hours, would send me to Madrid, Spain, where my dad was waiting for me and my family with a brand new life prepared without my consent. In 2002, Argentina was not going through a great time. It was recovering from an economic downfall that was called “El Corralito,” something that quite resembled the Great Depression that took place in the U.S during the 1930’s.…

Part of the time I am stuck between calmly understanding the reality of what I am doing or understanding the reality of what I am doing and panicking. When I was 16, I went on a mission trip to India. It was my first trip outside of the United States. I was part of a student team that led evangelistic meetings every night in the rural villages for three weeks. The students traveled singularly with translators to various sites during the evening, and at the end the three weeks baptisms were offered.…

Okay, so by now, most of you know that God answered my prayers to approve my church loan, and that He did not answer my prayer to heal my body which has been sickened. You also know that my update from Monday was filled with sorrow and hurt but all the while I knew the Holy Spirit was telling me that God is in control. I received so much encouragement from emails, phone calls and comments and I am so very truly thankful for everyone that has kept me and my family in their prayers. I wanted to let you know that Yes, God is in control, He always has a plan, and when He closes one door, He opens another; we must remain hopeful and have faith in Him.…
