The adults walked together , chatting away as they picked up intriguing rocks and fossilized pieces of wood or took pictures of the land around them. Us children raced up and down the rocky hills making as much noise as we pleased, seeing as there was no one else around to complain. Soon enough the older of my two cousins, Caleb, came across a large trench cutting through the land. Naturally, being children we had rather short attention spans, and were getting tired of just running around on hills. We immediately wanted to climb down and explore the trench, and the adults, seeing that the trench was wide enough for three of them to walk chest to chest comfortably in and no taller than my younger cousin Audrey’s chest, decided to humor us. At first the whole thing was fun, if only for novelty of walking inside a trench. Very quickly, however that novelty began to wear off, and one by one the others left to go explore the hills again and I was the only one left. With no one else to talk to, I quickly got bored and wanted out. There was, however, a problem. Without anyone noticing, the walls of the trench had risen so they cleared the top of my head by a good half of a foot. At first, I tried to climb up the side, then my dad tried to pull me out, with no success. Frustrated, we decided to just keep walking until the trench walls lowered
