Personal Narrative: My Trip To Dallas

Isaac Bashevis Singer once said “what a strange power there is in clothing”. While some people feel powerful having good clothes, they do not always know the whole process that goes into getting a trendy garment into a store, on the rack, and ready to be purchased. Take wine making, for example. There are numerous steps and a long time span needed to make sure wine is ready and safe to be put in stores. Ultimately, one cannot truly understand the process of getting items into stores without seeing and listening to the process first-hand.
On Tuesday, I had an unforgettable trip to Dallas. Both Human Sciences teachers, Mrs. Cupit and Mrs. Bridwell, took a group of the fashion merchandising students on a merchandising related field trip. During this trip we visited The Dallas Market Center, Neiman Marcus, Zodiac, and Holly Hunt’s showroom. Without this trip I would never have the opportunity to experience any of these places. This trip was a first visit to many of the merchandising department centers, but certainly not my last.

This specific Neiman’s holds a restaurant on the sixth floor called Zodiac. We each had a cup of broth, a popover, a croissant, and a choice of water or tea to start with. Our next plate was a Cesar Salad; I am personally not a fan of salads but this one was delicious. Next, we had roast beef with mashed potatoes. This entrée was the best roast beef I have ever had. Lastly, most were fed chocolate cake for dessert, but I had what seemed to be a lemon cake. After we each finished eating, we then met up with Marjon Zabihi Henderson, our tour guide, and a graduate of public relations. Mrs. Henderson gave us a tour of men’s, women’s, bridal, junior’s, and the makeup and accessories section. Mrs. Henderson was an amazing tour guide and knew many details about Neiman Marcus that were very interesting. This was definitely my favorite part of the

The Midwest is home to states with rich cultural backgrounds and popular tourist attractions. To take a break from the busy schedule I have as a student, and to avoid writing more essays like this, I went on a vacation to Michigan with my mother and two siblings. We visited South Haven, a pleasant port city on Lake Michigan’s east coast, and Detroit, the famous largest city in Michigan. These areas interest me because there’s plenty to do; there are amazing restaurants, breath-taking scenery, and family-friendly, inexpensive entertainment. South Haven is famed for its relaxed atmosphere and homely feel.…

Brownsville, Texas is the town that I was raised in and can still call home. It was rich with Mexican culture and delectable, greasy tacos but it was still an economically disadvantaged city meaning that there were never enough resources to guide students to better opportunities. Of course, I never knew I was deprived of such an apparent luxury until I came to The University of Texas at Austin. When this realization came, I became frantic because of how behind I felt. I began looking for all sorts of resources and opportunities the university had to offer.…

Coming to Houston from a country where opportunities are very limited and economy is a challenge for the youthful, has made the last two years a little rough and hopeful at the same time for me and my family. Therefore, school is the most important in my life, after my family; I dedicate my time and my efforts to not become just the first professional in my family, but also to be an exemplary person in society thanks to the values that my parents have instilled in me. Before coming to Houston, I studied three years of Industrial Design in Colombia; although I loved my career, I think that I was too young (15 years old) to appreciate what school was providing me and to be sure what I wanted to do in life. Once I got here I understood that what…

Our field trip to Chicago offered me a new way of seeing the city. I have been to Chicago multiple times, yet this trip offered me an experience I was not expecting. It offered me an insight to the darkness that covers the city and the beacons of light that try to shine through that darkness. It opened my eyes to those who are searching for a truth, a love and an acceptance and are finding it in so many different places; whether it is Jesus People USA, South East Friendship Center, Olive Branch, a Krishna Temple or an Islamic Mosque. In each of these places individuals are just trying to figure out where they belong and if they can find acceptance, but what each offers is entirely different.…

Without a doubt, there are many places in this world where people are able to socialize and mingle with their fellow human beings. Each place is unique of course, but the place that combines so many different social settings in one area is a mall. The Roosevelt Field Mall is a humongous space where so many stores co-mingle with one another in a 2,244,581 ft² space. Due to its immense size, and the variety in locations it has to offer, could that deem it an ultimate social center for those all across Long Island? Furthermore, are people as social to strangers (fellow mall-goers) as much as they are with their own clique (friends or family) at the mall?…
