Personal Narrative: My Test Into The GT Program

Decent Essays
A couple of years ago, I was taking a test in school in order to make it into the GT Program. I was very nervous and I didn’t believe in myself enough. One of the proudest achievements in my high school career was the way my team and I performed in the team build portion of the Skills USA competition. The Skills USA competition is a statewide competition in which high school and college students use the skills they learned from a vocational program to build a project in a limited time. My team and I were participating in the construction, team build where a team of four were given the blueprints to a small shed and given two days to complete the project. Before the competition starts the staff call all teams together and make changes to the plans, this is done so the judges can see who can adapt and overcome, and who will fall short. Competing against seventeen other high schools we were the…

My graduate experience will be light years different then my undergraduate training. I chuckle just contemplating the technological difference alone. Back when I attended undergraduate school there wasn’t the internet, the LoudCloud, e-books, or personal laptop computers. We thought we were “hot stuff” because we progressed from the slide ruler to a state of the art Texas Interment graphing calculator. By the way google informed me that my particular calculator at that time was the first of its kind.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

The Model T shook America. A rattling beast compiled of steel, glass, and the American Dream, this pioneer vehicle paved the way for car production as we know it. We all start out as that Model T, made of the same materials, but working towards individuality. As we grow, our car remodels; the Model T turns into the Model A, and before we know it, we’re a Ford Flex zooming along the interstate. Though exteriors evolve, technology improves, and destinations change, all cars maintain a common aspect: our engine.…

“Congratulations!!” read one post on a friend’s Facebook wall, the day after she landed an office job in her field. “So amazing!” read another. “Are you ready for your big-girl job?” asked a third well-wisher, accompanied by a GIF of Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope. “I can’t believe I finally have a real job” was the text she sent me a few days later, from the comfort of her desk, where she had been hired to do operations work for an organization she had once, a few years prior, interned for.…

I, in my time's past, was subjected to an accusation of plagiarism on a mathematics test. This not only brought down my grades horrifically, but made fear and disgrace fill my body. For the extended period of a month, I was despotic toward myself. No matter the effort that I had placed into my work, I couldn't evade the ever so gradually amplifying fear that my grade would never advance once more. Ascending through the diverse grade percentages was an overbearing task to accomplish, but I triumphed through it.…
