Practice Journey: For our practice journey, we completed 6 hours of various activities to help prepare us for our qualifying journey. We began with kayaking around Rheault Bay by our cottages on Turnbull Island. While we were out on the kayaks, we also practiced kayak emergency procedures like the “T-Boat” rescue. Back on land, we practiced campsite activities like building a fire, setting up a tent and campsite cooking. We then brainstormed items we need and created group and personal equipment lists (shown below.)…

While reading your post I could not help but think of the nurse who mentored me during my beginning days as a case manager. Multiple times every day she would disappear for at least twenty minutes and then returns stating she had to take her cigarette breaks yet she never smelled of smoke. At the end of the shift one day I looked all over for my mentor and couldn’t find her. I sent her a text message letting her know I was leaving for the day.…

During this semester I have learned multiple things in my class GSW 1110, I learned the skills to research, write, using correct grammar and syntax, as well as setting goals to improve my skills as a writer. Through class exercises and writing the different types of papers, I was able to learn those skills. Skills such as having better vocabulary by using a few new words. Another goal is having a better flow throughout the essay by not going into detail about information that does not need to go into depth. A few more goals are better planning of ways to set up an essay and having credible sources and more information about sources.…

When I was a child, I received unflinching support from mentors in my community, who made my childhood special. It only makes sense for me to provide back by mentoring children. Thus, my most important activity is my role in my school’s peer tutoring and mentorship program, because it allows me to not only make youth overjoyed, but also learn about my passion. Delighting others is important to me, and thus, five years ago, I applied to be a peer tutor, hoping to inspire others and provide back to my school. Every week, I am responsible for assisting my assigned tutees and others who drop in for support.…

Many times when one thinks of being an RA the financial benefits of the job opportunity becomes the focus. While I am happy about those awesome benefits those are not my only primary focuses. I am hoping to become an RA because I enjoy working with other people, developing professional skills, and building a community. Being a Sociology major, this experience will allow me to really have an on hands training of what I am learning here in my classrooms at U.C. Berkeley. I know that I am capable of handling this position as being an RA, because of my past experiences working with elderly people and also working with high school students.…

When someone asks me what is the biggest obstacle I’ve overcome I always answer saying, learning English, but deeply in my heart I know that I haven’t overcome my true obstacle because my real obstacle is trying to make a future in this country. As a Hispanic migrant and undocumented, I face hardships every day. One of them is that even though I meet all the requirements, I am restricted to apply only to certain colleges and scholarships because of my citizenship status. This situation makes me feel as if only people considered “real” Americans can get the best opportunities, colleges, and aid while people like me get the leftovers and are even targets of hate. No one has put up a poster in front of a restroom saying “Americans Only,” but…

I have had a wrench in my hand since before I could walk. One of my favorite childhood is the week before ST.Patrick's day, my teacher had told us to make traps for the Leprechauns. That night I went home, and went straight into the garage. I started pounding nails, and making a wood live trap. My dad came home, went down by my, stuck his hand in the trap and couldn't pull it back out.…

First and foremost I 'd like to apologize for just posting my Week 4 discussion post. I have been dealing with personal problems trying to keep home Internet services on, having to weekly job search and being diagnosed almost 3 weeks ago with Vertigo. I 'm feeling almost 100% better and a plan of action is to be caught up by the end of this Week 5. For me to briefly detail my experience so far in the course have been a big transition. I 'm a person being too wordy, not clear, not understandable, not being distinct, hard to put my feelings on paper and something that should be so simple, I make it complex and find it hard to be as specific as possible.…

In my first academic advising session for my first semester at HCC Southwest, I was excused from taking it as I had earned a qualifying score on my TOEFL. During my second academic session at Coleman College, the advisor spoke to the program director for to determine the validity of my claim.
