I was never very good at team sports and so I chose to focus my time and energy on individual activities. Once I reached middle school an opportunity arose for me to play softball on a co-ed church league. I originally joined for fun but there seemed to be a fierce sense of competiveness that slowly emerged over time. One of the main reasons I wanted to look at literature on the role of father-coach relationships is because I played softball with my dad. While I want to center the focus of this paper on my relationship with my dad, I sincerely believe that spending time as his player and teammate greatly impacted our relationship.
