It was the second week of school when we first met the string orchestra teacher; no one gave her a schedule. Her curly ginger hair, piercings, and her tattoos made her look kind of “intimidating”, but she was a very fun and laid back person once we got to know her. Throughout the year, she had taught us a lot like how to vibrato correctly, and we had played an ample amount of music that year as well. During the party, she talks to the whole class. She talks about how she wants to have a baby the following year and that she would need a full time job if she wanted to go through with her plan (she didn’t have a full time job at NAMS). As a result, she says that this would be her last year with us if they didn't offer her a full time job. That being said, she picks up a stack of papers from her desk in the corner of the room, she says they are awards for students who did good this year, everyone got one. We all had some laughs as some of them were funny and some that were meaningful. But when she got to mine and another student's award, she said that it was going to “make her cry”. As she called my name though, I felt really accomplished and proud with myself. I worked hard to improve my musical skills and technique that year so getting that award felt really good. After we finished with the awards, the class went into the band room and took some pictures there while we were waiting for the bell to ring. I was a much more awkward person back then so that was weird. As the loud and electronic bell rang, we all scrambled to get out of the room while saying our “goodbye’s” and “thank you's” to our kind teacher Mrs. Burgess for everything she had taught us. Personally what I learned from Mrs. Burgess was that hard work will always pay off no matter
