Personal Narrative: My High School Career

As my high school career is coming to an end, I find myself wanting something more than just a high school diploma. Growing up in a small ranching town my parents have always taught me to want something more than just a job at McDonald's flipping burgers. Growing up with an older brother and a younger sister has definitely made life more interesting; my older brother has been more of a role model for me just by learning how to do stuff with cars and more mechanic type things. My sister is the one I have more of the struggle with, it seems when she needs my help she’s really nice to me, but the other half of the time she’s just a turd. Which makes me cautious when she’s around because I don’t know if I’m going to get yelled at or asked if

Looking back on it, on how I got to where I am. I don't know how i did it, when you run into something ,with the power to knock you down- you get back up! I've considered myself a sort of mellow guy, but I can be very intense. It's funny because you can't tell by looking at me. Most people say they can't read me, but I think i am a fairly simple guy.…

My years in high school were quite thrilling and adventurous. Starting as a freshman, I had no idea where I was going and what was going to be expected of me. Over the years I became involved with extracurricular activities which led to my primary interest I had developed in technology and the sciences. As a freshman I joined the Students with Future Interests in Technology Club, Spanish Club, and Robotics Club. Growing up I was always the tallest kid in the class. Whenever class picture day rolled around, I knew that I was in the front of the line because of my height. It was somewhat embarrassing when all the boys were shorter than I, and the girls made me feel bad for how out of place I was. Not only did my height provide social awkwardness, it also administered the constant, never ending struggle of finding garments long enough. Whenever my mom or grandmothers wanted to take me back to school shopping, I made excuses of “I don’t need any more habiliments” or “I do not feel good, all of the sudden…”…

A dilemma that I faced, and still am facing is simply the decision about what I want to do with my life after my high school career. In my freshman year of high school my goal was simply to get through the year in one piece. I was forced to conform to my new environment and all the strict rules that came along with it. Along with that it was the sudden transition from being the "big dogs" as eighth graders at my middle school to being "fresh-meat" in my first year high school. With so much attention placed on me as a freshman like on the varsity basketball team, where I was constantly forced to prove my worth to the coach and the players, to stepping out of my comfort zone and performing in a mandatory play for the rest of the the school as…

Track and field has been the highlight of my high school life. The social aspect, the large assortment of events from which to choose, and the people I met are things I will always treasure. I especially loved the fact that there was always a place for everyone. If you weren’t too quick, then discus was your event. If you could build up quick bursts of speed, long and triple jumps suited you.…

“Choose a career that will always be needed,” my economics teacher said. It was 3:50 p.m and I was here, sitting in the lobby of a clinic thinking about everything and nothing at the same time. There were at least thirty-five kids here waiting their turn anxiously. My niece’s name was called and we walked into a hallway filled with medical equipment.…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

The end of the day comes whether you have gotten up to do something productive or if you have simply remained inanimate while time moves around you. I have found that the present slips away while you are worrying about the future. We are constantly telling ourselves that if we just get through this, then everything after will be better. We forget to appreciate the moment while constantly reaching for a hypothetically more fulfilling life. Once we graduate high school, or get through a challenging class, or finish a workout, everything after will get easier.…

In my high school career, I have been terrible with grades in my freshman year. I slowly but surely started to pick them up, but I was not the smartest in school. I was a slow learner, didn’t really catch the material as fast as everybody else. That was a disadvantage for me because I was making up some classes while I had to handle my regular A-G classes. I can honestly say it was probably one of the most difficult times in high school.…
