Personal Narrative: My Hero's Journey

Improved Essays
In your lifetime, you may have been faced with many difficult challenges. I have been put in the middle of other people's problems, as well where I am forced to choose what side to be on. Many people I know are very open with their problems and do not mind talking about them, but with me, I keep to myself. In the story written by Joseph Campbell (a scholar for Greek mythology who created the hero's journey), the characters of the story are put to many tests. Each character is being put to a different test to help them get through a journey or mission. They do not have a way to share their journey with others because they are all together, but I only seem to open up to my closest friends and family. Some of my problems consist of my fighting parents, my brother moving out when he was the only one I got along with, and how I did not want to disappoint my parents when I told them I no longer wanted to play basketball. They characters (Odysseus and his men) went on a journey …show more content…
I played basketball to keep my parents happy even though I wasn’t. Eventually, I took a year off travel basketball, but continued with park and rec. Park and rec is what little elementary school kids play. I enjoyed that, but I was just tired of basketball right then.
I then started back with travel ball, school ball, and tons of after school workouts. At the age of thirteen (right now) I recently told my parents, and Coach Bennett that I no longer wanted to play basketball. I was so scared that I was going to disappoint them, but surprisingly I didn’t. They understood that since I have played so long, that I no longer wanted to continue playing. Now that I go through life with that secret gone, I can get interested in other after school activities or something to do in my free time. I don't have my reward yet, but I am looking forward to see what it could

Joseph Campbell was a scholar who studied ancient mythology for many years. He came up with the idea of the Hero’s Journey. The Hero’s Journey says that all the heroes will come across many processes throughout their journey. Each of the processes gets the hero closer to his/her prize. Over the years and years spent on studying mythology, Joseph Campbell came up with the concept of The Hero’s Journey. The Hero’s Journey states that all hero’s travel in a similar path and go through many similar stages that’ll lead them to their reward. However, not every hero’s journey has to involve obstacles as in slaying a dragon or trying to save the world. In my case, I had to do nothing but trying to make it through sixth grade year. Sadly, sixth grade was the year that I faced the most challenges, real world challenges at least.…

“Maybe all we had has always been right Think of all the love you gain when you send it over Think of all the wool I’ve spun to be here tonight” A good intelligence officer should not have any tells. They should never, under any circumstances, endanger the mission by falling for and sleeping with their partner. It was a very good thing, then, that Cassian was currently on furlough because he was failing miserably on both counts.…

As a girl, the phrases, “you play like a girl” or “you’re a girl, you can’t do that” have always been words that are casually just thrown around, yet it causes flames to come out of my ears. Starting when I was about three, I was a sporty kid always running around. I liked to play soccer with the boys teams, since they were much more physical and would roughly push each other on the hard ground rather complaining when a nail got broken, or hair got pulled. I liked to play baseball rather than softball because I could throw a baseball with much more force than I could ever throw a softball, it was like a speeding semi truck on a highway. I enjoyed playing basketball even though I knew I was, and probably always would be, the shortest one on…
