Personal Narrative: My Gingerbread Home

Improved Essays
It's around 6:30 pm on a cold, December night. My Mom, Dad,and brother Nicholas are in the kitchen finishing washing the dishes from dinner. I am finishing up making a Christmas present and I go into the kitchen. I ask my mom if we can make our gingerbread house. She says “Yes, just let me get it all setup.” We all know that while she is getting our gingerbread house set up, she is also bracing herself for the evening ahead.
You might be thinking that we will be making our gingerbread house from scratch, but that is not the case. We go to the store weeks in advance and buy a kit with premade icing, candy, and premade pieces of gingerbread. The only thing my mom has to do, is put the pieces of gingerbread together and supervise us while we decorate the house.

She turns Christmas music on the radio, and my dad leaves the kitchen and goes to the basement so he doesn't have to be a part of the decorating. Nicholas and I are sitting at the table and our mom comes to join us. She takes a deep breath in and we begin. She gets Nicholas to hold two sides of the house together while she squirts icing on them to hold them together. I am just sitting there staring at the candy trying to think of what I will put on my side, when I hear growls.
“AHHH!!!! WHO`S IDEA WAS IT TO DO THIS!!! THIS IS A PIECE OF JUNK!!!!!” The assembly of the gingerbread house isn't going too well. My mom is getting really mad at it. She says a few swear words, and Nicholas and I are trying to keep our giggles inside. My dad hears all of the fuss from the basement and he has two choices…..one, to come up and help my mom, or two, stay in the basement. He always decides to stay in the basement.
After a few more swear words and growls, she gets the hang of it. Now that it is assembled, Nicholas and I can start decorating the house. I decorate my side of the house with
Christmas colours, but all Nicholas cares about is how much candy is on his side. Once we
