Personal Narrative: My First Time In Las Vegas

Decent Essays
This summer was very nonchalant. Although there was some events I attended, it was very laid back. Over the summer, I went to Las Vegas in celebration of my dad’s birthday. I mostly spent a lot of time with friends, and relaxing. When we went to Las Vegas, we spent a lot of time down at the pool and walking the strip. We saw a lot of interesting things that you would not see in California. Las Vegas was definitely a highlight of my summer. Before my time in Vegas, I got to see my best friend for the first time. We had a great time spending quality time together. After seeing her, I went to stay at my grandparents in Temecula for a week. When I got back from my grandparents, I went with Kathy to San Pedro to see the sunken city. There

    1. I grew up in San Francisco in an area where the majority of residents had lives there for generations. In my building all of my neighbors were older than my parents and a few were even older than my grandparents. Mrs. Garcia was a woman who lived in the apartment under us. She was in her 90s and had lost most of her hearing by the time I was eight…

Every morning, I make a cup of café con leche and tune into channel 5’s jingle of Matt Goss’ “Lovely Las Vegas” at 5 am before I get ready to make my way Downtown — a modern piece of the desert amidst the heart of the valley. As I look up at the street after struggling to untangle my headphones on my way to the bus top, I encounter new faces and wonder where they are going. My destination is seeing the sunrise appear with the silhouette of the Stratosphere Casino on one side of the field and the Downtown skyline on the other as the bus drops me off on 7th Street to complete my long morning routine – only to repeat the same journey the next day. There are days in which I would like to skip out on my morning walks to catch up on a couple minutes…

We got to see stalagmites, stalactites, flowstones, chandeliers and soda straws. We took lots and lots of pictures because if I didn't slow my family, I feel like they wouldn't have believed me. We spent about half our day there, and then after that she took me to the San Antonio Zoo. That zoo was humongous, way bigger than the one in the valley. I saw monkeys, elephants, rhinoceros, lions, zebras, and even penguins.…

Two thousand five hundred eighty-seven. I could take an eight-hour flight or a casual thirty-seven-hour drive, but no matter what, I am still two thousand five hundred eighty-seven miles away from my home in New Haven, Connecticut. Being a college freshman, trying to juggle class, homework, projects, studying, sleeping, eating, and athletics; finding the travel time to go home is an almost impossible task. Add in the cost of the $600 flights round trip and there is no chance a student can go visit home when they feel a little homesick. I on the other hand had never even fathomed being homesick from the frozen tundra I called home.…

My first time in Miami was December 4, 2009. It was a winter morning, but in Miami there wasn’t a hint of coldness in the air. When we first received the news that we were leaving Cuba everyone was excited and when the day finally arrived it was a little less thrilling and a little more somber. Leaving everything behind and moving to a new country was difficult and leaving a lot of our family was worse. “This is for you and your sister’s future” my parents said when we arrived in Miami I believe they were trying to persuade themselves more than us.…

After anxiously waiting about fifteen minutes, our waiter arrived with three beautiful plates. He set down my plate exposing my eyes to three buttermilk pancakes perfectly placed together with a layer of fresh strawberries and a tower of fluffy whipped cream in the middle, sprinkled on top were small bits of nuts and powdered sugar. All I needed now was syrup but what syrup would I choose if there all sounded so good; From Original to Guava to Coconut to Honey Macadamia Nut to Honey Christmas Berry or Honey Rainbow Blossom. My older sister, a cousin, and I had decided we would be taking a summer trip to Honolulu, Hawaii.…

In this photograph, a young boy wearing a bubbly bright blue shirt shamelessly flashes a rather tooth lacking smile for the camera. His arms and legs are crossed while he sits on a tiled bench under an ominous and cloud speckled sky. Behind this young boy rests a little girl wearing a tomato red complexion. She is adorned with a shiny silver necklace and a shirt that literally screamed summer. Under her resting hand laid cold tiles that would leave an imprint of the frigid shapes that pressed against her soft skin.…

After we ate we started going around to sites where we could take pictures of the city. The big site we were going to was the top of the Mount Lee which is where the Hollywood sign is located. I was very nervous because it was hot outside, but excited that we were going to climb all the way to the top. Before going to the sign though my sister said she had a surprise for us and that we were going to love this next place. After walking for awhile we finally made it to a big cave.…
