Personal Narrative: My First Field Placement

Improved Essays
My first field placement was a great experience. I really loved my placement because I had a wonderful host teacher and group of students. My host teacher gave me tons of helpful resources and hints. Also, she let me jump right in and help students, which helped me to make relationships with the students quickly. I enjoyed spending time with all of the 4th graders in my class but I gained a deeper relationship with a certain group of students. I got close to a group of five students, who were struggling to understand the material in math class. My host teacher would often have me spend time with that group of students to make sure that they understood the lesson and were not lost. I loved when she would ask me to do that because I would get to …show more content…
The day started out as a normal day in placement, I would walk around and help any student that was struggling. My host teacher told me that she was going to do a group activity but asked me if I would take the group of five to the back table and work with them on the activity. I told her yes, probably with a little too much excitement in my voice. While working at the back table with the students I did a few examples with them, but when it was time for them to try it on their own they still struggled. I decided that I would try to explain it in a different way like my host teacher did on a few problems. The students still were not fully getting it and I was starting to worry because I did not know how else to explain the problem. Next, I explained a way that the teacher did not show them how to do in class. When the students tried the next problem they all started to get the right answer. I was so happy that I was able to help them to understand how to solve the problem. The student had giant smiles on their faces because they knew that they finally understood what was happening in class and were no longer

These interactions have allowed me to make connections with my students about things that we both enjoy, such as the Carolina Panthers and UNC Tarheels. By making these connections, I believe that my students trust me more and, therefore, they will take me more seriously in the classroom as a pre-service teacher. I will definitely continue to make these valuable connections when I get my own classroom and assume more teaching…

I have done my fall internship at the same school but during the day. I feel that there is a lot I can do to support the students both academically and emotionally. During the first meeting with the counselor she expressed that being bilingual and bi-cultural will help. I know that there are not many opportunities to talk or have sessions with students, since they don’t have elective classes where I can see them, but I will try my best to be flexible with their schedules. I found out that they have a student government association, so I will try to be involved in their activities,…

Three careers that would be well suited for me are a cost estimator, an operations research analyst, and a conservation officer. Two of these careers involve quantitative thinking and mathematical skills, while the third career involves enforcing laws and regulations and working outdoors. Due to my interest in working outdoors I have chosen conservation officer as the best career opportunity for me. The first job I researched is a cost estimator. I researched this job because it involves mathematical skills on a daily basis.…

It was a scorching summer afternoon around three o’ clock PM at J.D Redd Park. I was anxiously waiting in third base for the batter to approach the plate and smack the yarn covered ball just enough for me to make it to the home plate. As the sun hits my face I see the pitcher retract his right arm getting ready to throw it. As I see the ball leave the pitcher’s hand, I breathed in the humid air, making preparations to sprint as fast as I could and make it to the home plate. Before I could even gather my thoughts the ball departed from the pitcher’s hand and into the bat of one of the members of my team.…

By incorporating and activating their background knowledge, math became a concept that they could understand through real life experiences. For example, I inquired about the number of wheels on a car. The students understood that each car had four wheels. I gradually went up to multiple cars in order to find how many wheels six car would have. The students were able to understand the concept of repeated addition (multiplication) through a discussion of an object that they were familiar with easier than reading a constructed word problem and…

During my internship experience, I learned a lot of things that I thought I knew but are misconstrued on. With that being said, I know everything must be done in decent order or this will cause chaos and lead to confusion. I also learned everything takes patience and is very time- consuming. I became frustrated, so many times and just wanted to give up, but I had to remind myself that hard times are going to come and everything is going to work out. Many times I sat on my bed crying because it seems like everything piled on me at one time.…

At a younger age, I would say I believed that I can only trust myself and my mother, this is because as a little kid my mom would always tell me that there are bad people in the world and that giving them any information about anything can be very harmful. But as I grew up and realized what was actually happening in my country I knew there were millions of others that were suffering against the “bad people” and we could only do something about it if the whole community came together to help. It was at that time when I was about 25, when I started to put some effort into trying to establish more just conditions within my country especially after the implication of extremely high food prices. This is when I started my first strike involving my…
