During my time in the Army, I have had plenty of obstacles, one in particular would be when I was a RTO (radio tech operator) and we were attached to another battalion to go raid a village. We patrolled all night until we walked twelve miles to our location avoiding helicopters flying in the sky looking for us. Once we finally set up an OP (observation post) we had a team go out and recon the village and we established a plan on how we were going to attack the village. My squad only had about nine of us, so we were not initially part of the main element to go in and assault the village. However, as we started creeping up to the first obstacle, a fence, helicopters started patrolling for us again.…
She was one of the girliest girls I knew since grade school, with her stylish culottes and pink garments of all different shades for all different occasions. She was the epitome of a mixture between pure innocence and quirk that boldly took her rightful place in the middle of my heart. Mary Anne wasn’t just all of that; she was also my affectionate girlfriend, my warm-hearted best friend who I could talk about anything with, from the most trivial things to the very meaning of our whole existence. At the time, all I could feel was the absolute joy that I got from spending my time with her. We had our entire happiness in the future planned out, a dream wedding and all, but maybe that was the reason why I wouldn’t have ever imagined that I would be feeling so lost and empty just a few years later, alone and missing a part of myself.…
The Infantryman I joined the Infantry as I wanted a challenge and excitement in my life. We are known to be stupid by the rest of the army. Actually, we are the most valuable bunch in the army. Our training is one of the hardest training that you can ever go through as a human being. It test you physically, mentally and emotionally.…
Hallo, I am 22 year old Erich Heusinger of Brandenburg, Germany. I am Catholic and am moderately wealthy through affluent parents. I am currently fighting in the trenches of this great war. I enlisted with my classmates a few years after I finished high school, vying for the glory common to heroic tales of warfare. My older brother, Karl enlisted in the naval forces.…
They still call upon me to help our country. I was even excited about it unknowing about what I was to face. Thinking this was gonna be a good honorable thing it was probably the hardest and most impactful thing I ever had to deal with. I decided to join the air force this is. This is one of the only things i don’t regret from the war.…
The person I am today is someone that has had a great deal of life experience in the short amount of time that I’ve been here. I enlisted into the Marine Corps at the age of 17 and turned 18 the day I arrived to boot camp. I quickly had to learn what it meant to be responsible for those around me to include their welfare, their lives, and their families. I also developed strong leadership and management skills to accompany those skills in which are needed to be a successful Career Marine. I was meritoriously promoted twice to the ranks of Corporal (E-4) and Sergeant (E-5) for demonstrating those skills in an exemplary way.…
Maxwell HELP Prabo SIZZLE SIZZZZZZZLE! The thermite charge just blew out the reinforced wall with a BOOM! My teammate started firing into the smoky abyss. He was returned with gunfire, as if his bullets fired back at him. He dropped dead with a, thud.…
"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" Maybe you heard this quote quite often but that's what I live by . Growing up, I've been a child who looked at the world with open curious eyes. In fact, I grew up in a small city called Daura located in Iraq. I am the middle child out of three girls. I was born in the late 90s, I have been told that it was the end of "the good days".…
I live my life on a legacy of war survivors. My family's standards toward success have always been a key factor as I was being raised. As a young musician, my grandfather’s optimistic views deteriorated the moment he got drafted for World War II.Appointed as commander in the tanks divison, my grandfather felt his everlasting ego grow as he protected his country. The moment of victory however soon vanished when an oncoming tank shot down my grandfather’s tank, destroying everything in sight. He was able to escape from the commander’s hatch, but as he struggled to get his best-friend out of the tank, the tank exploded.…
Not many people in this country would sign up for a job where you can get killed any given day, where you can be shipped to any given place in the world at any time, or where they are forced to create a will at the age of 18 or 19. Many young men across this country sign up for a minimum of a 4 year contract to join the United States military. In my opinion they are the bravest people in the country and rightfully so. They have to leave their loved ones to protect us from all enemies foreign and domestic. I had the pleasure of interviewing three of my friends who are serving or who have served before, and we will take a look through their eyes.…
Being a War Veteran Participation in war changes a person, but participation in two wars extremely changes a person that only a few will fully understand. People who have never been there ask me what it was like. Did you get shot at or shoot anyone? Others will share stories about a sibling, cousin, friend, or someone they knew who went to fight in a war. Even though they know someone who fought in a war, they themselves don’t fully understand what I went through on a daily basis.…
When I began working for the Veteran’s Administration as a personal care attendant for veterans that are wheelchair bound I had no idea how profoundly one veteran would affect me. This veteran, whom I will refer to as D-man, would become part of my life for 3 years. This is the first experience that I would have with a totally dependent quadriplegic. Even though I have worked as a medical assistant for many years, this was the first time that I would get to experience up close and personal, the day-in and day-out challenges facing paraplegics and quadriplegics, not only for D-man but also his mother who is his full-time caregiver.…
I am an American. I say it with the utmost pride and respect. Some citizens don’t stand when they hear, “The National Anthem” play, they don’t remove their hats, and sometimes they even talk over our song. They don’t feel great pride when they see The United States of America’s flag waving high in the air. Some Americans tend to think of being free, having personal rights, being allowed to speak up and many other rights as normal, but in other countries living in America and having the opportunities we have everyday is only a dream to them.…
Growing up, having a parent in the military was kind of tough. Having to pack up everything and move. Especially when that parent was relocated to a new base. I 've settled down for a few years, not up and moving or anything. As soon as the service in the military was over and my parents had divorced I was right back up moving around.…
You know that feeling when your stomach drops and you instantly feel nauseous? When I heard that my brother was getting deployed on a nine month long deployment to Afghanistan I felt exactly that way. With tears pouring out of my eyes I couldn’t help but to think of the worst case scenario possible. My brother joined the Army in 2013. In fact, he joined the Infantry Branch.…
