Personal Narrative-My First Beach Golf Tournament

Improved Essays
Last year, I went to my first disc golf tournament ever at White Clay State Park in Newark, Delaware. I frantically practiced for about three weeks before. I started to work on different throws that would help me on some of the harder holes. There are many different throwing techniques, but I throw fore hand, thumbers, and backhand. I learned a different stance and grip for each. At the tournament, I came upon a hole that I needed to use all three throwing styles in order to get a reasonable score. The hole started off as a small tunnel of trees in front of the tee box with a large opening to the left side. The only throw that could possibly work out was a fore hand “flick” with an s-curve. First, I stepped up to the box and planted my feet in the bottom right corner. I chose to use a 174 gram Katana, a disc that curves fast and smooth because of its light weight, thin shape, and wide lip. Two of my fingers were pressed firmly against the bottom ridge of the disc while my thumb was on top for support. I cross stepped and planted my left foot …show more content…
I grabbed the 150 gram Aviar because of its beneficial qualities. It goes straight, does not roll far, and it fades slowly because of its thin lip. With my feet planted, I swung my arm low and released the disc when it was above my shoulder. As I held my breath, the disc hit the right side of the chains, and it landed perfectly in the cage. Finally, I grabbed the disc out of the basket; I had completed one of the hardest holes on the 18-hole course. Even with the difficult shots and nerves from it being my first tournament, I managed to save it for a bogey. I ended with a score of eight over par. Each hole was a par three, and it took four shots to make it into the disc golf cage on hole nine. The three different kinds of throws are each used in different scenarios while playing disc golf. Many steps and techniques are needed for each

Realistically, a golfer should work on all areas at the same time in order to keep the body in balance as overall strength improves.
