As I gazed at my reflection on the fresh marble floor, new faces greeted me. My voice cracked with nerves as I said hello. Something about my new home gave me endless amounts of butterflies. The Guerra’s consisted of six distant cousins, my great Aunt Angelina, and her husband George. They were the wealthiest family in Venezuela, maybe that’s why my parents decided to send me off to live with them. You see, I’m the youngest of nine siblings and my mom and dad decided since they can’t give me the care and attention I need, I’m better off living with my Aunt and her family. I hate them for abandoning me like that, but I understand why they did it. The Guerras eldest son, Angel, showed me around the house. We glided down the long mirrored halls, …show more content…

I felt tiny goosebumps rise from my skin. Every single nerve in my body tingles as I turned around. Behind me stood a towering Uncle George. “Nothing, I was just going for a walk.” I hesitantly answered George. I caught his eyes examine me from my muddy shoes to my restless eyes. As he stepped closer to me he said: “Pretty girls like you shouldn’t be out here alone. Someone might hurt you.”
His words sent chills through my body. George was so close to me, that I could feel his hot breath that reeked of hard liquor against my skin. As his cracked hands began to brush through my hair, I felt paralyzed with

A common phrase in Cuba is “el que no tiene de congo tiene de carabali” and that phrase comes from the fact that every Cuban is a derivation of different cultures. Back in time, Cuba was only populated by native Indians, but later on, Europeans took over the country. She had to forgive me, I thought, because friendship couldn’t expire from actions that weren’t even mine. She only blinked, as if I hadn't said a word.…
