I lived for a while in the city of Delta Colorado from birth until I was a couple months before moving to Cedaredge, Colorado. I don’t remember much of living in Delta but I do remember living near the hospital, I remember a lot from my experience of living in Cedaredge as I was older and I experience the area. I only lived a couple years in Cedaredge before moving to the house nowadays I still live in which is in Eckert, Colorado. Eckert is my treasure box of memories because I rode my first bike to my first camping experience in my backyard, all three places make

It was a night like most others in the abandoned ghost town. All I saw was darkness and shadows creeping around every corner. I heard the howls of coyotes and the hooting of owls through the midnight air. The whistling wind rang the rusty, wind chimes dangling from the old run-downed mansion. The sign above read “Muddy Creek Manor”.…

Throughout the course of my short seventeen years, I have grown and learned many things. I grew up in a small rural town called Elk Creek. There are no strangers in Elk Creek; people sleep with their doors unlocked and their windows open. Everyone who has grown up in a small town can agree that friendship and community become a second nature trait. Although I have copious amounts of love and respect for where I grew up; I believe that I do not belong there.…

Lemoore, California. The 559, the 93245, the small rural town located in the central region of the San Joaquin Valley. A place that will melt flip flops to the ground in the summer, yet it will have people gathering around a fire in the winter with their hands wrapped tightly around a steaming cup of cocoa. Not much goes on in this town and it is not quite what someone would call a vacation destination, but there is indeed something special about this town. This special characteristic is the way religion connects and creates a family out of the majority of people who live in this town.…

Growing up in one of the poorest regions of the United States has taught me two things; one, we are not defined by stereotypes, and two, hardships are made to be overcome. Nestled in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains, Middlesboro, KY sits on the Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia border. The multicolored fall foliage and the vivid green mountains in the spring are disserved by the descriptor spectacular. My roots are firmly nestled in the Cumberland Gap where Daniel Boone started his journey to the West decades ago. I am proud to call myself an Appalachian-American.…

It was like nothing I had ever seen or experienced before, an out of body experience, an “out of the world” kind of sight. The day I had anxiously and impatiently been waiting for.
