Personal Narrative: My Experience At Baptist Health In Malvern

Improved Essays
The first semester has almost come to an end and today was the last day of clinical. I ended this semester at Baptist Health in Malvern. I was there a couple of weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Everyone is so friendly and willing to help. Nothing really interesting happened today, but I did get to see some very interesting patients. One of the very first patients we saw today came in on a stretcher for a one view chest x-ray. The tech brought the patient in to do her x-ray first, then she was going to be transported over to have a CT scan. She was completely out of it and never did speak. I knew something was wrong because of the way she was breathing. I got the tube set up and we were ready to slide the image receptor under her back. We positioned

Today’s goal was to introduce me to the site, the people that work in my department, the resources available to workers, and current projects. My volunteer supervisor, Geraldine Baptist, showed me around the hospital, specifically where I would normally sign in and sign out, the cafeteria, and the Occupational/Physical therapy outpatient department. Upon arrival at the OT/PT department, Ms. Baptist introduced me to the front desk secretary, Mauracell, a sweet, openhearted young lady. Mauracell warm welcoming made me extremely comfortable, and all anxiety was put to ease. Mauracell showed me around the office and work center, then introduced me to each person present and gave me a description of what types of things they work on.…

My day started a bit off, I had an emergency that morning that made me run a bit late for clinical. This made me miss some important information such as, how nurses in NCBH hand over to the next shift, but aside that, I had a wonderful day working with nurse Mrs. Osei. She welcomes me by introducing herself, which I responded likewise. She took me with her to do her morning rounds and administer medication to her assigned patient. After we were done with her morning medication, I went to one of her patient whom I was assign to by Mrs. Natasha to perform mini mental survey and general assessment on the patients.…

During my time at Norview, I have discovered a bunch of unique and interesting skills that I can benefit in my future career. The skill that I first learned was on the very first day going to Norview, the class and I were taught how to feed the residents properly due to their individual medical status. Later on that day we practiced how to properly feed someone, it was a little weird, but funny because we were feeding each other. The very last part we did before we left to go back to school was my class…

In the Human Services field I am very passionate about working with people in the deaf culture. I am passionate about working with this population because I know American Sign Language and I feel a connection to the community. Learning ASL took a long time and allowed me to be engaged in many events in the deaf community. I believe people in this population are not given nearly as much attention or opportunities as they should be. The lack of equal access to education, jobs, and basic interactions that hearing people take for granted is not fair and puts this population at a disadvantage therefore making it important for people to want to work with this group of people.…

On October 30th, 2016 I attended Redeemer Lutheran church. I arrived there ten minutes early and picked a pew towards the back and started to take notes. The mass started around eight o’clock am and lasted approximately an hour. The service itself was similar to a Roman Catholic mass that I am use to. I was surprised that they were so similar because my thought process was since they are completely different religions than they must have completely different mass styles.…

This week in clinical, me and another nursing student were assigned to go and visit the PACU. All patients are admitted to the PACU, Post-anesthesia care unit, following surgery. We visited the PACU in the first week of clinical, so I was familiar with the environment. When I first walked into the PACU it was empty, but the nurse told me just give it a few minutes it is going to get busy. I was assigned to be with a nurse for the day and observe how she takes care of patients after surgery is completed.…
