Personal Narrative: My Disagreeing With The Scientific Theory

Improved Essays
The Scientific Theory is the basic idea that organisms from billions of years ago have developed and changed over time, and make us who and what we are today. I personally disagree with this theory, however my beliefs align most closely with microevolution. From leading a Christian life, I have been taught to follow the teachings of the sacred book of Christianity, the Holy Bible. In the first few verses of the Bible, it says that “God is the creator of all things.” When he spoke he said, “Let there be light”, and there was light. In the beginning scientific theories supported christians and their beliefs. Science was in parallel with God being the creator of the world and his everlasting effect in how it rotates today. This allowed there to be an alliance with science, nonetheless, when the new Darwin theory came out everything changed. Unlike Newton theory, Darwin believed that there was a naturalist creation. This theory conflicts in several ways that christians have known to grow up with.…

In modern times religion and science are increasingly becoming viewed as incompatible, or at least non-overlapping. Damien Keown states that “Scientific discoveries, and theories such as evolution, have challenged many traditional Christian teachings…” at the expense of making them appear “...dogmatic, irrational, and backward-looking” (119). Despite its brief history in the West, Buddhism has gained increasing popularity in part due to its frequent portrayal as an exception to the conflict between scientific and spiritual thought. Proponents of this view—deemed “Buddhist Modernists” or “Secular Buddhists”—argue that Buddhism possesses certain qualities which make it compatible with a secular view of the world, while providing a source of purpose…

Through my four years in high school, one of the toughest classes I faced was AP biology. The rigorous course involved an intense 48 chapter lesson plan with a 2 hour AP exam at the end of the school year. Near the end of my junior, I was skeptical of taking this class, as I heard from my fellow classmates that the class was difficult to earn a decent grade. With this in mind, I began preparing for the class over the summer by reading the textbook, and practicing using the workbook. As I read the book, I became deeply interested in this subject.…

I was raised in a family that originated from Africa to the Southern parts of the United States. All of my grandparents and great grandparents were born in Mississippi or Arkansas. For this reason, I was raised by a family of people that believes in superstitions. When I was younger, I could not comprehend why things happened certain ways.…

Forming my own opinions was one of the most challenging jobs for a younger me. I figured it would be easier on me of I just listened to other people’s judgments and based my life off of them. I watched the same shows as the kids whose rulings mattered, I listened to the same music as all the prominent kids, I even judged people I had never met before based on the assumptions of other people. I now hate shows that require audience participation even though they cannot hear or see you, but because most people watched Dora the Explorer and Barney and Friends, I did too and regretted every second of it. Music used to bore me because of how simple and repetitive it was.…

As my grandpa walked into the dreary kitchen, he rolled up his sleeves and began to pull paper plates from our old cupboard like he had every Friday night since grandma got sick. Friday was pizza night. He finished cutting the greasy delicious pizza, that the local pizza place couldn’t, and plopped a piece on three plates. One plate for me, one for grandma, and one for himself. Friday was the only night grandma would allow me to eat in front of the TV, and not force me to talk about school or whatever sport I was playing at the time.…
