Personal Narrative: My Clinical Experience

Improved Essays
I have completed all my clinical hours! Hooray! I feel like I have had a good clinical experience. I have seen an array of patients: acute sick visits, hospital follow ups, pre-op clearances and chronic disease management. At my primary site, I have seen patients from all ages, backgrounds and walks of life. Each patient is unique with their own story and need to be treated as such. I have learned many valuable approaches and techniques that I will utilize during my career, and I am grateful for that.

She never skips an opportunity to show me something and provide me with an educational handout that has helped her or her patients. She has been by my side when I started as new student, and she has watched me grow into an advanced student.

I am evolving as a caring nurse practitioner; I am able to see patients “full circle” and “hands off” from my preceptor. I am able to assess patients, formulate a diagnosis, develop a treatment plan, and order appropriate medications/ interventions. Then report back to my preceptor. Most times, she is in agreeance. Because of this, my confidence is growing. The reason, I believe, is because I am becoming more knowledgeable with each clinical

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

John it is your turn," said Mr. Glass. I picked my head up looking around the room searching for the answer; still sitting there puzzled. It is my first day here and I am basically showing my therapist the exact reason I am attending this session. I opened my mouth to speak finally, nothing came out, Mr. Glass raised his hand towards me. He understood my condition; a sigh of relief was lifted off my shoulders; i placed my head back on the table.…

I spent the next morning at the forest preserve with my camera glued to my face. I used the solitude as my own form of therapy, tying up all my emotions from the night before in a pretty little box and tucking it away in the back of my mind. I loved capturing the seasons as they changed, all the reds, oranges and yellows blending together on nature’s canvas. Looking through the viewfinder calmed me, put everything right again and by the time I was on my way home I felt a million times better. The house was still empty, not that I expected it any other way.…

The writing of this entry in pencil was inhibiting me from expressing what I needed, so I hope this form is acceptable. And, also, I’ll try to refrain from treating this like a counselor/patient therapy session, only because some of what I may want to express will come off controversial and I don’t want to offend. The ‘inner turmoil’ I speak of pertains to my faith, beliefs and struggle to grasp religious obligations handed down by religious authorities, as well, as the personal opinions of fellow believers. And, moreover, the institutions of organized religions and conditioning of faith since childhood.…

Healing of Memories I God often gifts us in the very areas we have received healing and liberation. While I have witnessed physical restoration and healing in response to prayer, it is in the area emotional/spiritual healing that God most frequently calls for healing. My faith for this ministry was enlarged as God reached into the wounds of my past and released me from the bondage of fear into the process of finding the perfect freedom He has provided for His children through the victory of the cross. Paul writes “Praise…
