I have also had the opportunity to command as the Director of Operations at the 506EARS in support of the War on Terrorism. In my career at the 186ARW, the unit has gone through several mission changes and seen the enormous challenges that commanders and leaders have had to overcome. I have been fortunate to be led by many great leaders throughout my career. I believe that stress is a big factor in degerming what kind of leader you will be; however, a good leader will surround themselves with good people to help share the load. A sense of satisfaction and comradery is when your team and organization succeeds. I believe that a great leader has several attributes:
1. Strong: leads those you command with vision, purpose and guidance
2. Promotes: is always looking to promote and champion those they command
3. Reliance: a commander will not be an operate in a vacuum but rely on those around them
4. Compassion: a commander care for his people all the way to the lowest
