Personal Narrative: My Autobiography

Decent Essays
When I was younger, I always kept a book by me. Books accompanied me everywhere, to the mall and to my relatives houses. I was called a bookworm, and still called it today.I’ve read books, and collected them. I have over 100 books in my room, and have a library in my house. Sadly, I was bullied at school for reading books. People often thought I was shy and nerdy. People believed I was nerdy because I spent my time reading and had no friends. In addition, people thought I was shy because not many people approached me because I was “too concentrated on my novel’’. The picture of an open book is in my briefcase, because it reminds me that books don’t define a person. Just because I like reading, that doesn’t mean I don’t like talking to people.

My experiences over the last six years living in NYC have shaped me into the approachable and compassionate person I am today. I have been immersed in a melting pot with many different culturally and economically diverse populations. These unique experiences have broadened my horizons and allowed me to gain valuable communication skills and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. I searched out opportunities to give back and help the people in my community both in volunteering in hospitals, educating high school students, and interning in private practices. I even traveled with the organization Medlife, setting up a medical clinic to provide basic medical care and education to people in the poor and underserved communities surrounding Lima, Peru.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

We - as civilization - are shaped by our interactions with people. Some people have an engaged personality; generally bold or active. Other people tend to have a shy or introverted personality, preferring to be engaged in a small group of friends and stray from large groups. I am both partially introverted and extroverted, but prefer the latter. Reading is such a major part of my life; from the time I could comprehend the written word, I had always turned towards book.…

Ironically, though I wasn’t immediately taken with reading, I became an avid reader after those first few difficult years. I was a regular at my elementary school’s small library, and I competed in everything book-related that I could. Battle of the books, spelling bees, and English classes were my favorite pastimes in grade school. Other children dreaded completing summer reading and literature studies, but I looked at reading…

I used to always read all time when I was younger, during dinner, free time or anywhere that I could possibly get a place to read. There was something about books to me when I was reading them, like video games but with books. For hours, I would just sit down and read until I was told to do something or until I was done with the book. For example, Geronimo Stilton, a series of books I loved when I was younger back in sixth grade, which I would sit down and finish 5 books in a matter of a few hours. Then I was introduced to no illustration books, which I was not cooperative with reading with until I read Rick Riordan’s books.…
