Personal Narrative: My Abortion At Home

Hundreds of people just finished attending mass at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception on a crisp, January morning of 2014 and then proceeded to walk the couple of blocks to the capital building to meet the already forming congregation of people. Upon arriving, a woman was speaking at the podium, speaking with great conviction and all the passion in the world. Next, came more speakers and as more people gathered at the front steps of the capital that morning in Denver, Colorado; we felt unstoppable, at least until we actually hit the streets of downtown Denver. The very first road I crossed, I was centimeters away from being hit by a red, little car. The ladies that were sitting on the side of Colfax began yelling, and we weren’t greeted with any positive messages. The hundreds of people that were once so united and seemed so strong at the footsteps of the capital were now nothing, we were targets and being harassed by almost all bystanders we passed. As I joined a youth group and began to become more religious I took my own stance on abortion, and that happened to be pro-life. I was taught that God knew each and every one of us before we were even physically created. He knew how our life would play out and knew every detail about us, and even knew the littlest of things like, the curvature of our ear better and more than anything else. This idea that there was a person, a person who could have a life and make a difference in the world, would never even live to have their first breath of air, prompted me to come to this rally. The simple fact that my presence at this could march make a difference, was mind blowing to me.
