Personal Narrative: My 490 Calorie Diet

Decent Essays
I just ate my 490 calorie breakfast. I need to stop eating such a big breakfast every morning. I don't eat very big for dinner (if I can get away with it) or lunch. Breakfast is the only meal I look forward to; I crave sweet stuff when I wake up in the morning for some reason, so I eat like a fatass.

So here's my breakfast: My cinnamon coconut oatmeal (250 calories), peanut butter (190 calories), and this half protein bar that I ate for dinner last night, I don't know its exact calories but I'm guessing 50-100 calories.

I woke up late again today, at 8:45 AM. I tried to answer my alarm thinking it was my phone ringing. I figured I should get out of bed after that and made my way downstairs to the cold bitter air. It takes me a while to eat

Summary Throughout the Fitwell nutrition project I made many discoveries about my diet. Based on the Harris Benedict Equation, I found that I am eating approximately four hundred calories more than the suggested amount. This somewhat surprised me because I have not gained any weight since I arrived at college. However, what most likely put me over the top was my consumption of soft and crunchy white chocolate macadamia nut cookies that I so much enjoy.…

In my high school of over three thousand students, there are two Muslim students; I am one, and my younger sister is the other. Needless to say, deeming us minorities would be a bit of an understatement. My elementary school years deluded me with the superficial allures of assimilation into a primarily white, Christian community. I made constant attempts at blending into my effectively homogenous school, from fabricating stories about Christmas with my family to telling my friends that I had forgotten my lunch at home (thirty days in a row) as opposed to explaining the intricacies of fasting.…

The South Beach diet is a commercial diet created by a cardiologist, Doctor Arthur Agatston. Dr. Agatston was a professor at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida, where he used the diet for his obese cardiac patients who had trouble staying on a standard low-fat diet. The diet became popular in the 1990’s and was originally referred to as the modified low carbohydrate diet, for it is based on low glycemic index foods but then was renamed for the glamorous area of Miami where Dr. Agatston first started using the diet on his patients at his practice. Dr. Agatston realized the recommendation of the American Heart Association’s low-fat, high carbohydrate diet was not reducing his patient 's weight, but the patients who were using…

It is not Chipotle, but it will have to do. Everyone has had this thought at the end of the month when the money to spend on takeout has run out and now we are stuck settling with eating in the dining hall that we are forced to pay a ridiculous amount of money for. On the first tour of Baylor’s many dining halls they had put out the superior delicious food, I guess that must be kept in the back now. Back then it seemed as if there was an edible choice for anyone and everyone; including vegans, and the freshman fifteen seemed inevitable. Having been here now for almost a semester the façade of the likelihood of delicious vegan meals had faded long ago.…

Being born as a stray cat means I have to scavenge for food, and one thing I learnt from being a scavenger for years is humans are mostly callous. One night, when I was still a scrawny, little kitten, my mom took me and my siblings to a temple, and afterwards left us under the shade of a mangosteen tree at the temple’s yard while she was looking for food. She said we would be safe there since a temple is a place for human to pray and they are not allowed to do mischief there. Hearing my mom said that did make me feel safe, but that feeling of safety did not stay for long.…

Growing up, I have always wanted to dedicate myself to doing something special in life. I was born in a village in Mexico where public health and education were very limited. I recall, one day, accompanying my mother to a ladies house where there was a sick child. My mother was one of the women in the village who would take care of the sick; she learned everything she knew from my grandmother. When we got there, I saw my mother prepare some medicine and giving it to the ill child.…

Out of all my memories, the one that has impacted me in a positive way is my first YMCA summer camp when I was thirteen years old. Since I was new in the country, I wanted to gain experience and learn something new. I wanted to get familiar with American culture. I was very excited for this trip. The camp was about one week long and it was my first time when I lived without being in contact with my parents, although I did receive letters from my mom and some presents.…

Dieting seems to be all the rage right now. Skinny people that want to lose a pound or two does not compare to those of us who are overweight and struggling to lose weight. I have been there, but, thanks to Weight Watchers, I am no longer struggling in my weight loss plan. After searching, trying, and failing many different varieties of diet, I saw a Weight Watchers commercial on TV, advertising a free week trial. I put down the remote, and logged on to receive my free trial.…

At first I followed what my dietitian told me to eat, but as the semester went along, I got off track. Due to stress and anxiety about homework, I would snack too much especially when studying. My eating habit I followed in the middle of the semester was definitely not healthy at all. One day I would eat less and healthy; and the next day I would eat a lot and unhealthy. It was so hard to keep eating the same amount of food with the same amount of healthy nutrients because of my ever changing schedule.…

Eating Healthy Last week when I went to the grocery store, I found that the price of food was a little bit on the expensive side. As I walked through the aisles of the store I heard a voice behind me saying that trying to eat healthy is like a luxury, you know like getting your hair done. You do not need it, but you want it. We both chuckled and parted ways. Then, I started thinking that if I really wanted to eat healthy then it is worth paying the price.…
