Personal Narrative: Multimedia Production 2313

Tuesday: Multimedia Production 2313

Being completely honest, on the first day of class I had no clue what to expect of this course. Just from the title and description of the course I was certain it would require technical and creative skills. Two things I do not have and after I read Dr. Matthews' email I knew this class would be intense, however, that did not intimidate me. Last semester was my most difficult semester. Last semester prepared me for this semester. From a freshman to a junior I have improved in college and in life. As a freshman I was lazy and unable to multitask, but now as a junior the idea of challenges and learning new things excite me. Although I still get nervous jitters thinking about learning new things, I am not terrified of challenges. I listen, learn, and improve.

In only a couple of weeks we have already learned about a variety of things, such as how to operate audio equipment, how to understand sound waves, editing video and audio in Final Cut Pro, how to set up RSS feeds, and of course blogging. This is my very first blog so I am still learning to operate it ; as you can see I still write in essay format.

I own the DVDs to my favorite movies and I like to watch the behind the scenes footage. Usually the director, producers, and writers are interviewed about the production process, however, until this class I never knew their roles and the actual process of film or television production. In chapter 2 I learned what role each person serves in a production and everyone has a different role. The success of a production relies on the collaboration of everyone involved. I knew one fact before this class. One night while watching Spider-man my mom told me" The producer hires the

Throughout the course of this semester, taking TCF 201 has taught me about, even though I come to the conclusion that going in this direction of actually being a filmmaker is not for me, in the end. However, it did teach me a great deal. I never knew how much work could go into producing and directing your own work, I mean I had a general idea, but nothing to this magnitude of the amount of work that it takes, plus the hours of sleep that I have lost took a toll on me as well. But it was all worth it.…

Different moments of our lives change us and shape us into the man or woman whom one day we will become. One moment that changed me was when I got my first instrument. Getting my first instrument was exciting, yet challenging at the same time. When I told my mom that I wanted to start playing music, I didn’t realize how hard it can truly be. I didn’t think of how much patience and time I would need to put into my practicing.…

    Auteur Theory Essay

Now that Barthes has tried to definitively exclaim that the author is dead, we examine other cinematic forms of authorship this week, notably through the practice of producers, studio executives, and commercial properties. Through the work of Matthew Bernstein, Thomas Schatz, and Timothy Corrigan we find arguments for sub-facets of authorial figures in cinema, but ultimately note that the auteur theory can only be applied to cinema directors. Matthew Bernstein states that rarely is there such a case when a producer can exist as an auteur, but nonetheless it is possible. Bernstein’s work actually hypocritical in this sense, that he can state the rare existence of producer auteur, yet in the same piece openly admit, “collaborators make contributions, but only a director can make a film” (Bernstein, 184).…

As a student studying Short Film Production, I soon realised that it was completely different to the experience on the module during my first year of University. The learning curve was far more expansive. I learned how to appreciate the various roles within a production, I learnt that even if a role that may seem small in comparison to the DOP or Director that they still play a significant part in the overall production. It requires a team of individuals to be fully coherent with one another to create a mesmerising moving image. At the start of this module I thought that it would be a case of creating a basic short film to understand the concept of production.…

A film director is responsible for all aspects artistically and technically during his or her production. Directors may write the films script themselves or be commissioned to write it from the start, or they may be hired after an early draft of the script has been completed. During the pre-production directors are also responsible for selecting the right cast, crew and locations for the film to be placed in. They also direct the rehearsals and the performances of the actors once the film is in production. They also manage the technical aspects of filming including the camera, sound, lighting, design, and the special effects departments.…

After completing my second semester of Comp, I can honestly say that overall, I have enjoyed myself. I am proud of the work that I put in and feel that my grade best reflects the effort that I have put forth the last four months. One of the most memorable things that I am going to take from this class, is the ability to sprinkle lecture with humor in order to keep your audience’s attention. Because of this technique, I was able to learn so much more than if I would have taken this course over a computer screen or listened to some monotoned man drone on for forty five minutes at the beginning of each day. Although I don’t normally like poetry, I was able to really dig into our major paper and feel that I have such a better understanding of poetry than what I did in the past.…

Dancing in the Spotlight Standing in the spotlight is a very frightening, gut-wrenching accomplishment. Dancing alone in the spotlight can be even more so. I experienced dancing in the spotlight two years ago, when I played the part of Clara in the Nutcracker. Of course, it all started with dance, or rather, without dance. My mom was driving me to the studio, but I was not feeling well, so she strode inside to inform my teacher I was unable to dance that day.…
