Personal Narrative: Miss D's Music Class

I sat through Miss D’s tedious class daydreaming the entire time. It was the first week of school, and all I was hankering for was a calamitous storm that would cancel school, that did not happen. Each day of the week called for a new schedule. It was Tuesday, and I was a third grader who had a passion for singing. Our classes were combined with three other grade levels, I was the youngest. I loved music and was elated to be a student in Miss D’s music class. However, I wanted a course that would challenge and broaden my knowledge of music. Within the first few minutes of class we received our music, seats, and vocal range. After listening to my peer’s voices, I remember pondering the idea if this class was the fit for me. My school offered only one music class for all students, grades third through fifth. My standards were high, and I hoped that I would be pushed by my teacher. The mediocre voices and musical knowledge of my fellow classmates made me regret this class. A few could carry a simple tune, while others were perplexed by the designs on the page. The worst part was that my teacher continuously said, “Great job everyone! You all are amazing singers and deserve to go far.” Either she couldn’t hear correctly …show more content…
Miss D continued to say that we all were satisfying her expectations, which made me extremely frustrated. Her entire class was seen as a joke to me. So, I decided to not sing the correct words and instead say “watermelon.” Surely she will tell me I am doing an amazing job? That plan backfired, and instead she decided to call me out in front of the class. She forced me to sing the song the correct way all by myself. Though I loved being the center of attention, I did not like being it for a negative reason. The rest of the class, she refused to call on me or even make eye contact.
