At the beginning of the year I was really nervous about taking your Composition 1 class. You see, writing papers was never one of my strong traits. Looking back on this semester, I can see just how much my writing has improved. I went from being a writer who stressed over every tiny detail of a paper into someone who feels more confident in her writing to actually start enjoying what I put in my papers. Even though I stressed over every detail in my writing I still lacked a lot of the knowledge I needed to not make as many errors. At the start of the semester I had some major weaknesses in my papers. My punctuation and grammar was awful, and for some reason I just couldn’t wrap my head around how to correctly write things. For my first paper (This I believe essay) to accomplish goal #1 (Demonstrating effective writing as a recursive process), I had to go back and revise my essay, by expanding on ideas and fixing my mechanic issues. My observational essay also fit this goal, because I had to go back and fix moments of persuasion rather than observation. For my third paper (Literary Analysis), I fit the first goal when I had to go back and fix a lot of the fragments that …show more content…
How? I went to a nursing home and observed what it was like to live in one. The research I got from the experience helped me have a better understanding of what it was like to be in a nursing home. That knowledge, made my paper more detailed and real. My Argumentative paper involved a lot of facts. I had to find those facts from reliable sources, which is how I demonstrated the use of research techniques. The last paper that I believe fits into the goal is the Career Research essay. I had to at least have ten credible source to incorporate into my research

I believe I have learned a lot through this process that will help me further my history research, such as carefully analyzing documents and understanding what each document is trying to convey. To investigate my question, I read books by experienced historians, such as Edward E. Curtis, and I analyzed quantitative and statistical history that I got from historical books, autobiographies and public addresses about my question. My sources included commentary and fact based analysis. This helped me with my investigation because I was able to compare the commentary with the facts to determine if my commentary source was reliable.…

On the first day of class, I felt pretty confident about my level of skills as a writer, but little did I know there were a lot of aspects in my writing that could be improved. As time progressed and we learned more about colloquial language and little things I could change in my essays to further advance and improve my writing. Now, I feel even more confident about my writing and know that all of these little changes I can make in my writing create a better flow of ideas and a higher level of formality. I feel that throughout this semester I have been greatly challenged as a writer and have advanced the most that I ever have in writing within such a short period of time. I have put in a lot time and effort into this class in order to create…

I was 10 years old. I looked from the edge of the mat, unaware about the endeavor I was about to take the moment my foot touched that mat. The first time, I enrolled in this class, I felt excited knowing this class would help on my grammar, so I can become a better writer. My first thought that cross my mind was this was going to be easy and it was. My last experienced with writing and English was okay because I mainly get a B or a C, but rarely I would get an A. I started my journey through writing this year a bundle of nerves and a stomach full of coffee. This is my first year taking an advanced English course, but I was determined to do well. There has been no sleeping in class or slacking off this year, I’m lucky enough to take a college course a year early and at a better price, and I’m not going to waste it. I’ve learned a lot this semester, including but not limited to: identifying how exactly the author’s purpose and audience determines effective writing, developing pieces of writing though a process of planning, revising, and drafting, compose an organized essay with clear points and main ideas, used appropriate tone and formality, critiqued writing, and finally how to grasp the MLA format. My writing has improved through the concepts I have learned this semester.…

My writing experience: I didn’t start to read until I was in first grade. Every week we would go to library to check-out two books and take a test on the books we read on a computer. Every day in English we read a short story to ourselves then we would play games dealing with the story to make it fun. To be honest I never really did a lot of writing in Elementary , Middle, or High school so I can’t pinpoint when I started writing. In essay writing I learned its always good to express yourself with your own opinion.…

I started writing then because of a troublesome past, both my mother and my father had left my two other siblings and I all alone, leaving us with our uncle. It was very hard for me to adjust, I was fatigued and emotionally hurt, I turned to writing. My love for writing grew into a bigger part of my life when I kept dream journals.…

Over the first semester I feel I have been appropriately challenged in the area of writing we have done this year. I learned many new skills, but the most important one involves English and how to write properly. As for the first writing, I really did not understand what was right and what was wrong. Because I never paid close attention to specific rules in how to write. I truly believe it has been hard for me.…

Introduction Looking back at my essays from my first semester in Composition I, I can definitely see that I have improved tremendously. My learning from my Composition II was not so much about learning concepts, but it was more about improving what I already learned last semester, and adding onto it. Compared to last semester, my learning this semester came from paying attention to details, following the rules, and adapting to a new teaching style. While last semester, my learning came from new concepts like ethos, pathos, logos and knowing what they are and how they work.…

Over the course of this semester in my English 1320 class I have seen a drastic change throughout my writing style. Although I still have difficulties with a few writing tasks, I believe that I have improved significantly throughout this course. I have found that with my professor’s guidance along with my own personal editing that my grades have increased. Although it is difficult to not get caught up in simply striving for a letter grade or attaining a 4.0 grade point average, I would like to believe that my main goal was different. Of course I would love to achieve those goals as well, but overall my primary goal throughout this class was to become more relaxed and comfortable in my writings, to use new strategies and proper kinds of conventions, and to truly find a way to express my passion on these papers.…

It’s been a heavy work load especially this semester since I decided to enroll in five classes, but in the end it has been very beneficial indeed. I can’t say that writing essays has been one of my strong points but I believe that this course has helped me improve tremendously and it has also made me feel a lot more comfortable with my writing.
