I wanted to make a small gesture that showed I respected the people's culture. A few other girls and I sang the song in front of a crowd in church. We forgot some of the lyrics, mispronounced the words, and embarrassed ourselves during the performance. Small schoolgirls in the front pew giggled at our attempt, but in the end the church erupted in applause. Looking back now, I understand why all the little girls laughed. I sound tone-death when I sing and I probably chopped up and Americanized every vowel in that nursery rhyme.
But all in all, I grew with the experience. I met new people and became friends with people I thought I would never talk to. It showed me how much fun you can have if you keep an open mind and have new adventures without high expectations. I met so many families and enjoyed my time playing with the little children. I had never known I could have so much fun and share things in common with people from a different part of the world, who spoke a different language, and came from a different culture than I was from.
This experience will help me in the future as I move away from home and deal with different personalities and people from all walks of life. I will remember what I learned as I go through the highs and lows especially in college where I will be away from the comfort of my mother and as I make new
