Personal Narrative: Improving My Aerobic System

Decent Essays
Firstly the biophysical strengths that came from the application of the continuous method to my training program are as followed. The most obvious strength that came from this method of training is the enhancement of my aerobic energy system. Improving my aerobic system happened from the direct interrelationship it has from my physiological adaptations. During continuous training oxygen needs to supplied to muscles to avoid the build up of Lactic acid that would happen without the presence of oxygen. This aerobic process delivers oxygen to the muscles to break down fats, carbohydrates and proteins this produces the molecule ATP which is used as the main energy source, that allows my body enough fuel to be able to preform a continuous run such …show more content…
I could tell that my body had undergone some of these physiological adaptations because my RPE had gone down from a 6 to a 5 on the same type of run from week 1 to week 4, meaning that my heart rate had also gone down for the same amount of work (122bpm --> 102bpm). I would also expect to see a decrease in my resting heart rate from before to after, but unfortunately I did not take my resting heart rate before I started my program but I would expect it to be higher than my current resting heart rate of 68 beats per minute. I think that applying the principle of specificity to my continuous training was also a strength for the Mud Sweat and Tears event, for it work the same energy system (aerobic) as I would using in Mud Sweat and Tears this meant that I would be developing this energy system for the time and intensity I needed it. Above shows the strengths and interrelationships between continuous training, the aerobic energy system, cardio-respiratory and the principle of training specificity and how they developed me as a runner to perform as well as I could in the Mud Sweat and Tears

Muscular endurance is key to may sports, sports where intermittent exercise is performed, such as rugby or basketball, intermittent training is appropriate. Sports where a continuous exercise output is required, such as a marathon, continuous training is appropriate. Exercise has beneficial effects in patients with cardiovascular disease, even for those with severely impaired cardiac function, and that physical inactivity accelerates the severity of heart failure. ( Ulrik Wisløff, PhD; Ashjørn Støylen, MD, PhD; Jan P. Loennechen, 2007 ) The purpose of this experiment is to compare and contrast Continuous and intermittent exercise, it is hypothesized that the participants will be able to work longer and have a greater power output well performing intermittent exercise.…

Leading up to the Tough Guy Tough Gal Challenge we tried to train as specifically as possible to the type of physical challenges we could expect. The idea of sport-specific training refers to “being able to duplicate or imitate a specific skill or aspect of one’s sport or activity”, thus, it is critical when training for a purpose or event such as Tough Guy Tough Gal. For our training programme, each week we completed a 50 minute circuit session, a 1 km run with a 2 min rest (increased dist. each week), and a Long Slow Distance (LSD) - also known as continuous training. I also had both a soccer training and game each week.…

Examples of endurance training are long-distance running, biking, and swimming and examples of strength training are weightlifting, wrestling, and sports like football. Different characteristics can be seen between endurance athletes and strength-trained athletes. Endurance training is associated with volume overload of the heart, whereas strength training is pressure overload. Endurance athletes need a large volume of oxygenated blood pumped to the rest of the body while they perform. Endurance athletes increase cardiac output with reduced peripheral vascular resistance, resulting in continuous volume changes for all cardiac chambers.…

At the beginning of my junior year of McNeil High School I qualified to be on varsity and was put into the varsity soccer class for one month. I trained with the returning varsity players and learned from our varsity coach. However, at the term of that month I had received a statement that I did not have the capability to become a varsity player and would be moved down to junior varsity. This remains as one of the toughest setbacks that I have faced in my life. Due to this failure, I joined a competition in the club Health Occupations Students of America called Healthy Lifestyles.…

One advantage of the 1.5 mile run was that the test was easy to conduct and required minimal equipment as the test took place on an indoor track. A second advantage is that the test could be performed in groups which may have provided motivation and encouragement for the subjects throughout the test. In addition, before the 1.5 mile run, all of the subjects were told to complete the test as fast as possible as the test should be a maximal effort. If an individual is aerobically trained, they may have a greater advantage over an individual who is anaerobically trained as they are able to sustain a high intensity level for a longer amount of time. However, maximal effort can also be a disadvantage to some individuals as well.…

Earlier this year in January, I decided to start my weight loss journey. I managed to get rid of thirty-seven pounds throughout a period of six months. Along with a massive change of physical appearance, this journey also generated a lot of mixed responses from my family and friends. I heard many comments such as, “look at your bones sticking out of your shoulders stop now, you look unhealthy,” but also, there were others that said, “you look amazing, congratulations, you deserve it”. This giant wave of fluctuating comments got me thinking: what is the difference between looking healthy and looking good?…

The other actors and I were “back stage” which was really the corridor that leads to the gym lockers, my teacher and principal bragged to the crowd about a play they haven’t witnessed yet.
