Each student was forced to dress the same: dull green polos, boxy khaki pants, plain brown shoes, and socks embroidered with our school emblem. Because I attended the same school from the moment I was potty trained to the year before I acquired my driver’s permit, I found solace in the familiarity of the yellow-walled hallways and the comforting scent of Clorox as I entered each classroom. Nevertheless, as I began my high school career excited to enter the young adult realm, I was disappointed to discover what seemed to be a mature version of my monogamous orthodox upbringing. Throughout my freshman year I struggled to find my niche, but I couldn’t help but wonder if there was more to life than indistinguishable apparel and theology
