Personal Narrative: I, Brenda Isabeles-Chaves

Decent Essays
I, Brenda Isabeles-Chaves, am a 17 year-old teenage girl that was born in Vallejo, California but was raised in Napa, California. I come from a family of four. My parents were born and raised in Mexico in a place called Tuxpan, Jalisco. Then there is my younger brother, whom I tend to always fight with. Even though I only have one sibling, I have cousins that over the years I have come to consider as siblings. I come from a family that has its ups and downs like any other, but at the end of the day we all come together as one. Looking back into my elementary and middle school years, I notice that I have changed my choices for future careers so many times. I have gone from wanting to be a teacher, to a veterinarian, to a

January 2, 2012 my world had come to a screaming stop. I hung my head to hide the pain knowing her last moments with us were cruel, and very uncalled for. She would be 12 going on 13, but now frozen in time she, Julieann, would only live to see 5. She was a tiny little thing against her peers, barely visible and unseen, unless of corse she made any sound. Those sounds would be called a classroom disturbance, and would acquire discipline until meeting the teacher’s satisfactory needs.…

I have grown up my whole life with one question always dangling in the air: what do I want to be when I grow up? After 18 years of changing my mind for about a million times over, I had finally landed on a career in education. At this time I decided I want to teach elementary education, specifically kindergarten because I enjoy being around young children. Still, during this point I had some doubts in my head about the career path I had chosen and I wanted to be sure of my decision. This was partially because I would be going to college soon and that meant I needed to lock down on an occupation for the rest of my life.…

During my journey in finding the right career for me, I realized that there are two types of people: the ones who know early on what they want to be, and the people who transition from numerous options over a short period of time. I was the second option. As a child, I grew up having various kinds of career ideas. I started off wanting to be a banker because of my skills in handling and monitoring my money, then I wanted to be a lawyer (I still haven’t figured out why). At about fifth grade, I thought I wanted to be a chemist since I was taking many more science classes.…

A New Home Walking, away from everything you once knew and starting over is never a picnic. Leaving, Iraq and moving to America has impacted my life more than anything. I was only 4 years old at that time, the only English I spoke was “excuse me, water please.” We did not know it then, but our lives were going to change, we would become “Americanized”. Learning English was one of the massive changes that occurred, the way I dressed (culture), even the way I have power to go to school and educate myself, and to have my own view on life.…

    Essay On Liberal Arts

“Liberal arts: would you like fries with that diploma?” this quote thought up by the unknown defines the mindset of high school students considering a liberal arts college. Many will tell a person that liberal arts is not for those who want a “real” career, liberal arts is for people who are not ready to grow up. I was told by teachers in my high school that I should think more of myself when I voiced that I was considering attending Central for the next four years. I believe Cronon explains the lack of enthusiasm best when he refers to liberal education as a “marketing ploy.…

    Best Career Path

One of the most important decisions a person can make is the choice of a career path. As early as kindergarten, adults will ask children what they want to be when they grow up. At the age of six, I thought I could grow up to be just like Carrie Underwood; obviously, that was a bit unrealistic, but this demonstrates the importance of the decision and the difficulty in selecting the best career path for the future. The probability of becoming an exact replica of the country singer was minute, so, unfortunately, I had to choose a different profession. Constantly changing my mind, I decided on a different career almost every year from then on.…

When we are growing up we change what we want our professions to be, as an adult, several times. At least, that’s how it is for most people. Even after we are grown up and in college, there is still a possibility that we can find a new calling. It’s a normal thing. No one is born knowing what they want are going to do as an adult.…

In elementary kids are asked many times “What do you want to be when you grow up?” For some reason, it takes some longer than others to find out. During my childhood the things that interested me were teaching, fashion designing, dancing and being an entertainer. In my head, at the time, I believed that there was a way to do it all at the same time. As the years passed my life started to change.…

One of the most prominent things that I have realized from my first month of college is the importance of all the small things. Details have been essential for everything and everyone I have come into contact with, ranging all the way from what assignments I have due, to the hours of the dining halls. These first weeks in my freshman writing class we have held discussions on the most random—and what I believed to be at the time—irrelevant subjects. These discussions were just the opposite. After every class, I would leave intrigued.…

When I was younger, my parents always encouraged me to be myself and to never give up. As I got older, they continued to tell me the same thing. Never once did I feel like my parents were pushing me to be a certain person or to want certain things. I was always allowed to express myself the way I wanted (blue hair in middle school) and explore career opportunities (fashion designer). Even now, they still encourage me to set goals and to work hard to achieve them.…

There comes a point in our lives where we have to decide what exactly it is that we want to do in life. Whether it’s becoming a doctor or owning the next five-star restaurant, we each have to set out for a career path. For me, I began trying to figure out what it was that I wanted to do in middle school. I had all of these plans to go to a major university out of state and obtain my degree. I just knew that I would get my cosmetology license.…
