Personal Narrative: I Am Cierra Howard

I am Cierra Howard. A 15 year old African American/ Indian Christian female. My skin is a light shade of caramel of which they call “lightskin”. This makes everyone question whether I’m mixed with African and Caucasian. I am 5’3 with brown hair and brown eyes. My friends say that around my eyes, I look Chinese. I’m in the school band for Mt. Morris or EAJ Highschool and I play the flute; I would love to learn a bunch of other different instruments though. My mom is a secretary and my dad works for an Assembly Plant. I have two sisters and one brother, I am the youngest in my family. I also have three nieces, one nephew and another niece or nephew on the way.
I like to do many things and I like a lot of things. Food is something I like, I mean, who doesn’t? I also like ice cream, cookies, and getting what I want. I get called a brat all the time. The things I like to do are go shopping, watch t.v., traveling, listening to music, and playing my instrument. I’ve never traveled though but I think it would be nice. I love

I love music so much, there’s so many reasons too; I guess I can try to explain them. It’s not just listening to music, but I love playing it too. The different sound coming from different instruments and when you’re playing and when you’re contributing to those sounds and it’s so melodic, especially when you play the flute. Putting emotions into the music makes it even more interesting. It’s like you understand what the songwriter, singer, or composer was feeling or thinking of when they made or sang it. It’s a wonderful feeling. Also, music helps me get rid of stress or if I’m in a bad mood, it calms me down. I guess music helps me control my emotions and takes me to a place of tranquility. I feel at home when I play a piece that matches how I feel. Even my home doesn’t feel like home when I play.
