Decent Essays
I'm Nicole Whittern and I am an Aleut, a proud member of the Qawalangin Tribe. Native to Unalaska, Alaska. Unalaska is where I grew up, and the place I will always call home. My grandma, Kathryn Grimnes, was the head of the Aleut Corporation after WW1 when no one else would step in. She fought hard to save the corporation and support the people. My grandma is an Aleut elder, and she has taught me endless knowledge. I've learned how to stand strong in my beliefs, work hard, and that nothing is impossible. In 2006, my mother decided my siblings and I would move from Unalaska, AK to Bellingham, WA to give us a better opportunity to thrive athletically. I still visit the island every summer. In the summer I work for my grandma, attend an Aleut

Canada has provided enough recognition for Métis culture and rights through existing legislation. Historically, the Canadian government, or Dominion of Canada, has tried to protect Métis land through legislation. Furthermore, Métis inherent rights to land, hunting, fishing and autonomy have been met with current and improved legislation. The Métis are now recognized as aboriginal peoples and share the same rights as them through Section 35 of the Constitution. These pieces of legislation make it possible for the Métis culture and rights to be preserved and recognized by the government, and to ensure that the collective rights of the Métis people are affirmed.…

As a result, the area of study that I am most drawn to is ethnic studies as ethnicity affects all aspects of a person’s life. My experience as a Native American woman has made me aware of the complexity and value of my own ethnicity, as well as the ethnicities of others. What I think about the book it is well organized and each chapter is explaning a subject during all the book Snyder is using Primary and Secondary sources she explains from the beginning of American Natives to the End of Native American as we can see in the first chapter she was able to explain how the Natives would be and act. A part of a book that empressed me was that before the Natives would not care in the race for slaves they would never think that white would be superior than blacks or indians. For them everyone was the same everyone had an was in the verge to be a slave it all depend more on the age than the skin color it depend more on the age than their origin (Africa or Europe), but it was until the Spanish came it was until the…

If people were to overlook the past then it would just repeat itself over and over again until people stop avoiding it. Like if people ignored what Martin Luther King Jr. or Rosa Parks or anyone else that was involved in what happened in the 1960s didn’t stand up and do anything people would still be segregated. White and black people would still go to particular schools, eat at specific restaurants, sleep in different hotels and many other things. Some people today still say mean or offensive things to people, but it’s different from how it was back thing. There are many other reasons people shouldn’t ignore the past and this is one of them.…

After analyzing the humanities through the history of America from pre-history to Reconstruction, it becomes evident that Americans identified themselves as purely unique individuals with unlimited potential; while this idea was constricted to a certain group of people for some time, certain art pieces and literary works expanded the common American identity to a wider population, eventually causing it to lose its race label. The revolutionary Exploration era delved into the unfamiliar and the strange, as European explorers crossed the Atlantic in search for new resources and land. During this time period, few European art portrayed the fruits of these explorations in various sketches, used for informational purposes. One such example was…
