Personal Narrative: How I Negatively Affected My Life

Improved Essays
Thankfully, I don’t have any life changing events that drastically affected the way I live and breathe, but I wouldn’t say I live a perfect life. I was born in Brooklyn, New York, and went to school there until the Summer of ‘14. Before then, I would rarely go to school due to overall laziness which caused my grades to take a toll. My mother, of course was disappointed in my behavior willing to send me to boarding school or something if she really had to . Little did I know, I was treading on thin ice. One summer day, I had gotten into some trouble with a friend of mine. When my mom got word of it, she decided that was the last straw. Mom had me pack my things, and a few days later, my brother came down from Pennsylvania to help me move …show more content…
This passion was strengthened throughout my aging, as I had experiences with video games and computer programs. A light bulb flashed over my head, and the idea to work with technology as a living came to mind. While in Brooklyn however, I didn’t notice the impact the streets had on me, such as the idea of stealing. Coming to Pennsylvania changed my life in many ways. Not only did I go to a completely different high school with a different demographic than my previous one, but this high school had different and stricter regulations. Staying here in Altoona, Pennsylvania for two years and counting slowly changed me. Seeing different types of people and different teachers opened my eyes to life outside of a large population of people similar race, and less negative social influences. Recollecting, my old school gave me a break with things that aren’t acceptable in the real world, which I consequently took advantage of.

Ultimately, moving to Pennsylvania changed my outlook on life. The interactions I made, and the places I have grown up shaped who I am today. Brooklyn wasn’t a bad place, but my choice of friends and my actions prevented me from being the positive leader I thought I was back then. My family can say my mom made the right move in sending me to live with my brother, and I simply make a smile and nod in agreement. The

Throughout my life I have lived in three cultural distinct regions Lima Peru, White Plains New York and Baltimore Maryland. For the first two years of my life I lived in Lima, Peru and even though I never culturally adapted myself into the culture I would often visit for months and immerse myself into the culture. I can say with confidence that if I grew up in that culture I would not my be the same person I am today because of the fact that they are a collectivistic country and that would change my outlook on myself and the community around me. At around my second birthday my family and I decided to move to the United States in search of a better quality of life. While most of my family live in Baltimore, Maryland my father had already established himself in White Plains, New York a…

Leaving my home in Mexico and coming to a boarding school in the U.S. was a major lifestyle change for me. I lived in Mexico my whole life before I moved to PPAS at 13 years of age. My first day was difficult, but unlike other students, I was not homesick. My parents had prepared me since I was a small child to one day be prepared to leave home and make my own life. This was my first step into my ultimate goal: attending college in the U.S. I also had to learn how to make new friends, who in retrospect, were in the same situation being in a new school system, with grades, schedules, and teaching that were different from the Mexican system.…

“You cheated”, slipped from my mouth. I was referring to my English Class. Frustration, filled my voice as I was disappointed in myself because I received a B. In my life I have only ever got one B and for reasons beyond my control and to complex to be explained. However, this B feels like my first real B. It resembles the first course that has ever conquered me. The whole time I have been striving to get A’s not for my gpa but for myself because it was something attainable that I was certain I could accomplish and that seemed to solely rest upon me.…

Failure has always been a huge aspect in my life recurring in everything I indulge myself in; whether it be academically, athletically, or even Boy Scouts. I tend to have a knack for challenging myself till I am unable to complete the task given to me, whilst this could be good in some ways it also puts me in some not favorable situations. More recently I had the thought of completing a bike race , after receiving medical attention for a concussion and a broken collarbone. This was not necessarily the smartest decision on my part, especially since the race was longer than I have ever raced before and also a three day event.…

It’s very strange how one experience or choice you make in your life can change the rest of your life that follows that event, would you then in turn change these decisions you made. Such as your what if your mom conceived you not on the knowing basis. What if everyone was telling her not to because she was to be a single mom and that’s not a world a child should be born into, but then what if she challenged this belief that she grew up with. This then in turn affected all her choices later in life, but then vice versa what if she didn't challenge this belief and stuck with what she knew. This may be of the more extreme choices in life that some people must make but we all have that certain time in our life that comes where we must break away and make…

The results of these experiences can be good or bad, or a little bit of both, but either way they shape our lives. The biggest life experience I’ve ever gone through is my move to California. Although this only happened about a year ago, it was a huge change for me because I left so much behind for an unknown future.…

Personally, things were complicated growing up. I lived in a tough, low-income neighborhood with a household of six and parents who left their country for a brighter future. In addition, nothing was ever handed to me and I worked rigorously to achieve my goals. For example, these past years – I devoted sleepless nights to homework and school, all while maintaining a full-time job. Moreover, this has taught me to becoming the dedicated, hard-worker I remain today.…

Change is seen differently by different people. Some accept it while others deny it, depending on their values and mentality. This is seen in many places in today’s world, like political models, society’s values, and debates on environment based on science. Similar to almost everyone, life presented me with a chance of change when I was fairly young, end of 4th grade to be exact. I was asked by my parents to switch schools from a local medium to international medium of studies in India.…

IF I WERE ELECTED MAYOR I would put policies in place to help stop the crime and hire more police to patrol high crime areas. I would also help establish better laws for the state to help us improve on how we spend money to help poor people and provide better low-income housing and help unemployed people get better jobs. I would also help improve our local schools and their facilities. This includes a better library , cafeteria, bathroom, and provide better lunches from McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, and Little Caesars. Also I would help purchase better classrooms equipment such as desk and more technology, hire more teachers, and buy more computers.…

When I’m asked about things that have changed who I am, I immediately think of my friends, and ex friends. Every day, people come and go in our lives and less often, these people are friends. For me, friends are hard to make (and to keep) and I easily lose contact with them. I have few friends who I know are true to me, they have been by my side for years and I know they won’t be leaving anytime soon.…
