A giant. A giant is a mythological beast that is supposed to be larger than any human ever will be. A giant is supposed to be very strong and muscular. A giant is supposed to not be real, but there is. His name is Chris Leprechaun.…
How does one become “immortal”? To answer that you’d have to pick a definition of immortal. For me that definition is to be remembered for many years to come, most likely not by millions of people, but by a few. In reading the Epic of Gilgamesh something dawned on me, what would I want to be remembered for if I died today? Seeing as I’ve never truly considered it, it took me a good while to determine the things I would want to be written into the history books for.…
Joseph Campbell was a scholar who studied ancient mythology for many years . Years later he soon came up with the concept the Hero’s Journey. The Hero’s Journey are the stages a hero must come across to meet the reward he will soon discover. I am not a hero , but I have encountered many things to make me a better football player. Everyday I come across some of these stages to get me to my biggest reward.…
Over the years and years spent on studying mythology, Joseph Campbell came up with the concept of The Hero’s Journey. The Hero’s Journey states that all hero’s travel in a similar path and go through many similar stages that’ll lead them to their reward. However, not every hero’s journey has to involve obstacles as in slaying a dragon or trying to save the world. In my case, I had to do nothing but trying to make it through sixth grade year. Sadly, sixth grade was the year that I faced the most challenges, real world challenges at least.…
Breaking Stereotypes One Step At a Time Greek life contributes a lot to the average college community. Whether it being, giving student’s connections, philanthropy, or providing a fun atmosphere for several stressed college students. The affect it has on the students individually is huge too. Fraternity’s and sorority’s push each member to reach outside their comfort zone, and to strive for excellence in academics, community involvement, and personal development. “Greeks all speak a “language” that they learn in the process of becoming part of their fraternity/sorority.…
I walked into the courtroom with everyone’s eyes fixed on me. I turned to the left and sat down by polyphemus. Soft murmurs traveled through the room. I looked over at the defendant, odysseus, and gave him and his lawyer dwight a dirty, confident look. Apparently the whole room saw the look and murmurs got louder.…
I am sitting in my room, eyes puffy and red from trying to fight back my tears. The Hundred Greek Names Project is due tomorrow. Although the name makes it sound like there are only 100 essays to write, there are actually one-hundred eight, and I am on number eighty-five. Not only that but the rain outside is not helping. It is only making me want to quit and go to bed even more than I already do.…
After a long time at war, we were finally trying to sail home to Ithaca, but Zeus did not agree and sent a storm towards us. Odysseus tried to keep us safe from the raging storm and docked us somewhere safe from the wind. I managed to stay quiet for about half of the first day we were docked, but I soon began to get anxious and hungry. “Odysseus, when do you think we can eat something?” I asked.…
Working on the Greek mask project was difficult because I wasn't sure how to begin and due to my lack of artistic talent. I was able to overcome my initial difficulties by looking at masks on Pinterest for inspiration. After, looking around I opted to go with the classic Greek "tragedy" mask and just add my own flare to it. The materials I used to create my mask were cardboard, paper, makeup, and leaves. To begin my creation I took a piece of cardboard and cut out the shape of a mask and two large eyes using a knife.…
Epic Hero Cycle Story I was so tired, but I was glad. There wrere only two hours left of our six hour plane trip from Chicago. David, my brother, and I were on our way to Iceland. It was July 13th,a Friday and there were very few people on the plane.…
Throughout my senior year in high school I have read a multitude of books in class and independently. I have read A Brave New World and Streetcar Named Desire in class with my peers. Independently I have read the book Gifted Hands by Ben Carson. Most of these books were related to me directly and others were related to general world and society around me.…
One day my mother found me in the bathtub with soaking wet books. I had always been a prevalent reader, but I guess my escapade in the bathtub went a little too far. If I had had my way the bathtub might have started looking like a Louisiana swamp. During my middle school years, I started to read maps. After my parents learned of my interest in maps they took me to a maps exhibit in Baltimore.…
The Greeks used the Greek Gods to explain many different things in ancient history. The gods were used to explain natural events, feelings, and anything else that there was no explanation for. Some people even believed that some of the gods and goddesses were actually kings, queens, and warriors but the stories tell them as gods and goddesses. No matter who they were, they dealt with the recurring themes of love, suffering and struggle. There were gods for the sky, earth, sun and many more.…
In retrospect, my reading memories have formed my way of thinking and my characteristics as well. In my childhood, I read many interesting comic books from preschool, which is still on my mind. The first comic book I read was Bo Con, translated into English is Lost Calf. Since this was my first book, I finished it with help from my dad.…
Everybody has motivations, some unseen and some highly visible. Driving these motivations are people's passion. Everybody has something that guides their goals and ambitions. Some people are driven by blind ambition, others by wealth, and others by the yearning to make the world a better place. Many people are driven by numerous passions that push them all over the place; however, some are driven by a single overwhelming passion.…
