There's this feeling that I get when I go to someplace new. My blood starts pumping faster as adrenaline fuels my excitement. Anticipation seeps into me as I think about the places I’ll go and people I’ll meet. That’s why I yearn to travel, for the excitement I feel every single time. Don’t get me wrong, I love my small hometown in Iowa, but let’s be honest, it can get a bit dull. Whenever the opportunity to travel is offered, I jump on it because, “We travel not to escape life, but for life not to escape us.¨-Unknown While traveling I get many chances to try the local cuisine. Trying food from a different country can be frightening, especially for picky eaters such as myself. But just as my mother says, “Don’t knock it til you try it.” I guess I can finally admit she’s right. New dishes bring out distinct flavors you never would’ve thought you would like. For example, during our stay in Punta Cana my family and I tried the dish called the Bandera. It …show more content…
Some of the most valued acquaintances, are people you meet while traveling. They become places on the map to visit again. These folks give you a glimpse outside your hometown circle of friends and force you to take in new and refreshing perspectives. Ultimately, it helps you realize that every culture and everyone a part of that culture is unique. For instance, whenever I go to Memphis, Tennessee, to visit my sister and her husband, it is always a bit of a culture shock for me. I’m not used to being the only white person in the room because of where I grew up. It drew my attention to how different our lifestyles are even though we were still in the United States. If willing, traveling can really open up someone’s mind and help them become a well-rounded individual. Experiencing things they otherwise wouldn’t get the opportunity to learn about.
